Smothers Academy has had a culture imbedded in Courage, Honor, Intelligence, Perseverance, and Fraternity. We hold our students to extraordinarily high standards, and we continue to be inclusive and accepting of male students of diverse ethnicities and all races. Our nondiscrimination policy is clear and evident within this photo of young men engaged in Chess who are Black, White, Hispanic, and Biracial who know nothing but love and respect for one another. What a wonderful world we could live in if adults who run the world were as tolerant and accepting as children are.

Breaking News!!! 8/24/22

The Louisiana Department of Education recommended to the BESE Board to approve the application of Smothers Academy Preparatory School For Boys to be a BESE approved Private School for the 2022-23 academic school year!! It was a unanimous vote of approval by the BESE Board members. We are extremely excited to be able to continue the education of male students, and in particular…. Black Boys! Smothers Academy will continue to operate from a place of honesty, love and compassion, while delivering a rigorous education rooted in the principles of Courage, Honor, Intelligence, Perseverance, and Fraternity.

We will now be able to receive vouchers from students that are currently receiving tuition assistance payments from the TUITION DONATION CREDIT PROGRAM. Families that are affiliated with either of the following School Tuition Organizations listed below can request a transfer from their current school to attend Smothers Academy. While you are currently reading this valuable information, we are diligently completing the necessary paperwork with the following organizations to be placed on their list to accept your State tuition payments.
We ask that you please be patient with this process.

Our anticipated start date is September 26th 2022.

•ACE Scholarships Louisiana
•Arete Scholars Louisiana
•Son of a Saint Louisiana

We are also working with our accreditation organization to complete the process before the 2023-24 academic school year so that we are able to fully participate and accept the scholarships from students who participate in the LOUISIANA SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM. We will keep you posted on the our progress with our participation in this particular scholarship program.

Please make sure to apply for the State scholarship programs when they open again in NOVEMBER (2023) to be ready for the 2023-24 academic school year. Periodically we will have seminars to assist you in becoming familiar with the State scholarship application process. Once again, we thank all of our supporters who believed in us over the years and never wavered in your commitment and trust in the institution. We believed then, and now, that TRUTH always overcomes any obstacle, and we shall not be MOVED!! Smothers Academy Preparatory School For Boys will remain obedient and diligent in its unapologetic commitment to educating Black Boys. Ultimately, our goal is to aide in rewriting the narrative to one that celebrates Black Boys’ accomplishments and positive attributes rather than vilifies their existence.

Smothers Academy Parents,

Mr. Travis Williams, Executive Director and CEO of HBCU All Stars, LLC and supporter of Smothers Academy has secured 50 tickets to the HBCU All Star Basketball game being held on Sunday 4/3/22, 3:00PM at the UNO Lake Front Arena. We would like to offer this to our now 10th and 11th grade Huskies. Each former student who wishes to attend can each have one ticket and they will be distributed until they run out. All tickets will be at the will-call area of the arena and be distributed on a first come, first served basis. Please note...General seating tickets are $30 so make sure if he arrives late and can’t get a ticket, at least he can get in and watch the game. This is an unsupervised event, but you know our expectation is that they continue to display the Five Performance Principles… Courage, Honor, Intelligence, Perseverance and Fraternity. That "wood" still applies!!

Smothers Academy Preparatory School For Boys is currently taking on-line enrollment applications for the 2021-22 academic school year for grades 3rd through 6th. IN THE NAME OF JESUS, THIS PRIVATE SCHOOL WILL LAST FOREVER. Yes, finally after two years WE ARE BACK!

The location is 2521 Marias Street New Orleans, Louisiana 70117, (504) 420-7200. Our first day of school will be September 13, 2021!! There are so many people that I would like to thank for their continued prayers, support, and phone calls with encouraging messages. You know who you are and you know I love you forever. My current Board of Directors and Advisory Council Members are truly a blessing. I thank you all for the consultation and sound advice over the years. We will continue to do God’s work educating our Boys in an institution that is designed to break the school to prison pipeline through love, understanding and lofty academic and behavioral expectations. Let’s all stay positive and move forward, not forgetting the past, but learning from it, growing from it and doing better than before.

Just a reminder of the academic and athletic excellence Smothers Academy Preparatory School For Boys demanded from its young men. Trophies in chess, football, basketball, baseball, and track! .... If given the opportunity we most definitely would have excelled in the academic decathlon. Never let anyone control your history or your future. Be the “the masters of your fate and the captains of your soul” It Matters!! Keep striving for perfection and remain obedient to God and watch Him remove all barriers and surround you with good folks who love all children especially Black Boys!!
