The Loyola Women's Resource Center was founded in March 1975, with Carol Deinhardt Mawson as the director. candidate in psychology at Harvard University and an assistant professor of psychology in City College. “Take Back the Night is an international event and non-profit organization with the mission of ending sexual, relationship, and domestic violence in all forms. Hundreds of events are held in over 30 countries annually. Events often include marches, rallies and vigils intended as a protest and direct action against r**e and other forms of sexual, relationship and domestic violence.

One of the first "Take Back the Night" marches was held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in October 1975, after the murder of a microbiologist, Susan Alexander Speeth, who was stabbed to death while walking home alone. The theme "Take Back the Night" was used as the title of a 1977 memorial read by Anne Pride at an anti-violence rally in Pittsburgh.”

The Crescent City’s 31st annual “Take Back The Night New Orleans” will be held TOMORROW, April 6 at 6:15pm at Loyola University New Orleans, in the Horseshoe parking lot.
