That Master of Science degree is a one-year non-thesis degree requiring students to take 30 credit hours during 2 semesters. Our coursework emphasizes foundational classes in cell and molecular biology while introducing students to more clinically relevant topics such as human anatomy, histology, embryology, biochemistry, physiology, and disease. Coursework is supplemented with service learning an

One of our past students from the CMB MS class of 2019, Morgan, was accepted into Kansas City University College of Osteopathic Medicine!

“Attending Tulane's Cellular and Molecular Biology program expanded my understanding of what it takes to be an exceptional healthcare professional. The program's rigorous curriculum spoke to the time management, grit, and resilience I will need when training to become a physician. My desire to work in direct patient care flourished through the shadowing, research, and community service opportunities within New Orleans. I am grateful for the guidance and support of the CMB faculty, including post graduation. My time at Tulane greatly impacted the growth that not only made me a competitive applicant, but will ultimately lead me to becoming a culturally competent provider. I am pleased to announce that this summer I will be attending Kansas City University College of Osteopathic Medicine.”

Congratulations, Morgan! Best of luck to you!

One of our current students, Cam, shares a little bit about one of her service opportunities: “I’ve been helping Dr. Agaja this year develop/ plan for the Pediatric Special Olympics program in the state of Louisiana. It’s currently a pilot program, and LA is only 1 of 4 states that were selected for the pilot program before being launched nationally in a couple years. The other week, we did a volunteer event screening for heath care and developmental needs to identify any abnormalities or deficits in care so that we can then provide these families with physician referrals, and community resources.”
Great work, Cam!

Congratulations to one of our current students, Ameera, who was accepted at LSU Health Shreveport during the fall 2021 semester!

“I was a reapplicant to medical school. The Tulane Cell & Molecular Biology master’s program had everything I needed to make me a stronger applicant during the next medical school application cycle. Not only was I able to expand my knowledge in a variety of science courses, but I was also able to increase my number of service hours, hear from professionals weekly about their experiences in the medical field, and get hands-on experience in two different cadaver labs (special thanks to !). In my medical school interviews, I talked about this program at length with my interviewers, and they were very interested in hearing about my experiences and the unique opportunities available in the Tulane CMB MS program. This program has given me so much: a variety of course options, great professors, unique experiences, service opportunities, and some of the greatest friends! I highly recommend this program to anyone who is looking to make themselves a stronger applicant for their desired professional program. I feel even more prepared for medical school after going through this program. I am so excited to begin medical school at LSU Health Shreveport in the fall, and I am thankful that this master’s program has helped me achieve this lifelong dream of mine! Also, a special thanks to Dr. Cronin for trusting me with running the CMB MS social media this year!”

One of our past students from the CMB MS class of 2021, Conner, was accepted into medical school at Tulane University School of Medicine!
“Several years beyond undergrad, the CMB program gave me the opportunity to prove myself academically and prepare for medical training, and I took full advantage. I'm very proud to say I'll be joining the class of '26 at TUSOM!”
Congratulations Conner! Best of luck to you!

One of our current students, Julia, volunteers weekly at Edible Schoolyard NOLA. Scroll through to enjoy some of the beautiful photos she’s taken during her volunteering!
Taken from Edible Schoolyard NOLA’s website, their mission statement is as follows: “The Edible Schoolyard Project is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the transformation of public education by using organic school gardens, kitchens, and cafeterias to teach both academic subjects and the values of nourishment, stewardship, and community. Edible education provides hands-on experiences that connect students to food, nature, and each other; and it systematically addresses the crises of climate change, public health, and social inequality. At its heart is a dynamic and joyful learning experience for every child.”

Two weeks ago, our students attended a seminar by Mr. Duc Huynh, along with two of our current students who applied during the current 2021-22 medical school application cycle, Ameera Kattash and Megan Vande-Linde. Mr. Huynh is part of the Newcomb-Tulane College of Academic Advising, and he helps pre-medical and pre-law students with their applications to their respective professional programs. The three speakers gave tips and advice and answered questions from our students who are planning to apply to medical school during the upcoming 2022-23 application cycle. Thank you to our presenters for coming to speak to our students and offer great advice!

Two of our students, Julia and Ameera, are pictured during their Head and Neck Anatomy course after their brain dissection day! 🧠

A full body Gross Anatomy dissection course and a Head and Neck Anatomy dissection course are offered to our masters students. Medical and dental students often find the cadaver dissection course to be among the most challenging courses in their professional preparation. Taking gross anatomy while earning a master’s degree assures that students will be prepared for success in their clinical program.

We are so thankful for our donors and their altruistic donation, providing our students with the opportunity to have hands-on anatomy labs and allowing our students to further their knowledge of anatomy through such a rewarding educational experience.

One of our past CMB MS students from the class of 2021, Chelsea, shares where she is currently in her journey and what her plans are for the future!
“After graduating from the Tulane CMB program in 2021, I took the MCAT over the summer and began applying for positions in clinical research. I knew that I wanted to spend some time combining my passion for working with people and my love for scientific research. I was offered a position with the Tulane SOM as a Clinical Research Coordinator where I now spend most days conducting patient visits and processing specimens in the lab. I plan to apply to medical school this upcoming cycle, but I hope to continue working in clinical research in the future!”
Best of luck to Chelsea on her journey and during the upcoming medical school application cycle!
