Often women, particularly Black women, are told to “wait your turn,” “it’s not time,” or “they aren’t ready yet.”

What if we realize anytime we are in the room it’s our time. What if we are the solutions to problems that plague our homes, churches, communities, citizens, nation and world? Yet, we allow others to be the official timekeepers of our lives and moves.

Pastor Rev. Dr. Melva Sampson reminded us on Sunday, August 16, 2026, during her weekly Pink Robe Chronicles’ offering: “I’m no longer waiting for someone else to make space for me. I create sanctuaries with my own two hands.”

There’s been a lot of new people coming my way so it’s a good time to officially introduce myself and my work, which guides my ministry and my content.

I am The UnMuted One, a woman who survived the weight of patriarchy, toxic theology and the pressure to shrink. I refused to stay silent.

Today, I journey with Black women of faith, especially those who have been ignored, underestimated, or sidelined to reclaim their voices and confront systems that silence.

Through my Silencing Syndrome framework, I help women to break lifelong patterns of shrinking so they can speak, lead, and live with authority. I’m here to remind them that their voice is not a problem. It’s a calling.

You don’t need to wait on permission as if you were waiting on a blessing.
You just need to go forth and be, say and do.

Waiting for permission from systems and people that will never give it to you is futile.

Recently, there's been a bit of chatter about Black people being hopeless vs helpless or helpless vs. hopeless. Either way, the conversations got me thinking that at times I've felt and experienced both.

I call to mind women like Jarena Lee, Rebecca Cox Jackson, Sarah Hughes and Sojourner Truth and how they handled hopeless and helpless days. For women in the 21st Century who must navigate systems and practices that seek to silence them, these 18th-century women left us words and actions that bid us to fight on.

Therefore, I shall pass on to others what was passed on to me. I shall pass on my writings to spur those who follow to fight on when they feel hopeless and helpless.

For years I believed I needed one more degree.

One more certification.

One more accomplishment.

Surely then people would respect my voice.

They didn’t.

Why not?
It certainly was because of my lack of preparation.

Why?
The system that was never waiting to affirm me because no amount of education, preparation or inspiration can outperform a system built to minimize your voice.

Lift changed drastically for me when I came to that revelation.

Somewhere, along the way I learned that good little girls, especially Black girls in church, were expected to be respectful, agreeable, and unseen.

Long before anyone told me women couldn’t preach, I already knew it.

I learned by watching.

Who stood behind the pulpit.
Who served in the kitchen.
Whose voices mattered.
Whose questions made people uncomfortable.

Years later I realized something that changed my life.

Silence wasn’t my personality.

It was my training.

I wonder how many of us have confused making ourselves smaller with being faithful.

Today, I had the awesome privilege to assist in the sacred pastoral installation for the Rev. Hilda R. Porter, the new senior pastor of Greater Start Valley Baptist Church in Ponchatoula, Louisiana.

This was indeed a glorious occasion as she is the pastor of a traditional Baptist Church.

God is yet calling, speaking, moving, anointing and appointing!
