Earlier this month, our Professional Development team hosted a Friday Field Trip to the Model Classroom for Cedarwood School.

The Model Classroom is currently designed around key themes educators encounter during the back-to-school season, including establishing routines and classroom rules, supporting early math and language development, and helping children understand and navigate their classroom environment.

Field trips like these give educators the opportunity to explore, collaborate, and learn together as a team. They deepen participants’ understanding of child development while equipping them with simple, effective strategies they can incorporate into everyday practice to support children’s learning and growth.

Field Trips are held monthly, and we encourage you to join us! To request a field trip, go to: https://bit.ly/4usqwo9

When we invest in early childhood education, we invest in brighter futures.

Last week, our CEO, Jen Roberts, spoke at the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Shiloh Gardens Academy’s new location in the Holy Cross neighborhood.

This project represents more than the culmination of a seven-year restoration effort to revitalize a historic building that once anchored this neighborhood as a family grocery store. It also brings to life a shared vision to expand access to high-quality early learning for local families.

This is just one example of the community-building made possible by New Orleans’ historic investment in early care and education through the Early Care & Education Millage.

Congratulations to Mrs. Pamela and to the entire Shiloh Gardens team!

One of the ways we measure progress is by looking at how many more children and families have access to high-quality early education.

In 2025-2026, we helped over 1,800 children access early education by securing local and state investments and working alongside providers and community partners to strengthen New Orleans' early childhood system. We're proud of what we accomplished together this year!

Early Educators, do you want to build a calmer classroom? Join us for this Introduction to Conscious Discipline.

Conscious Discipline techniques aren’t just about explicitly teaching children better self-management skills, you’ll learn how to model these techniques yourself so that children can see these strategies in action.

On Monday, we hosted Big Ideas from the Model Classroom: Back-to-School Edition, where early childhood educators explored the Model Classroom’s latest set up with a focus on supporting early language and numeracy skills.

With hands-on rotations through curated activities and group discussions, participants gained practical insights for planning new, engaging activities that would smoothly prepare young children for the transition back to school. Educators also explored how to plan intentionally using materials and resources they already have in their classrooms.

Big Ideas from the Model Classroom is offered on a quarterly basis, and we hope to see you at the next session; maybe you can be one of our next door prize winners!
