LSBA "Suit Up for the Future" Program “Suit Up for the Future” is a free high school summer legal institute and internship program hosted by the Louisiana State Bar Association.

The Louisiana State Bar Association, in partnership with the Louisiana Supreme Court, Just the Beginning, and the Louisiana law schools hosts an annual internship program. This program is available to incoming high school juniors, seniors, and recent graduates who are interested in the legal profession. Students participate in a three-week legal institute, during which they attend an abridged law school session, tour law schools and courts, and participate in an internship consisting of job shadowing at area law offices and courts.

From last-minute prep and nervous laughs before stepping into the courtroom, to focused arguments in front of the judges, and the post-presentation relief and celebration after—it was a full day of unforgettable moments for our Suit Up for the Future students. Behind the scenes, you could see encouragement, teamwork, and a few excited reactions as students supported each other through every stage. It was a great mix of learning, confidence, and fun as they wrapped up their oral arguments experience.

On the final day of Suit Up for the Future, student interns traveled to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana, where they presented oral arguments before a panel of esteemed judges.

The judges’ panel included: Hon. Karen Wells Roby; Hon. Sherryl M. Howard, Orleans Parish Civil District Court - Division "N", New Orleans, LA; Hon. Rhonda J. Goode-Douglas New Orleans Criminal District Court - Division "E"; Hon. Jennifer M. Medley, New Orleans Civil District Court - Division "F"

Suit Up students began their day with a visit to the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office, where they were welcomed by District Attorney Jason Williams. Students toured the office and learned about the role of prosecutors in the criminal justice system.

The students then visited the Orleans Public Defenders Office and met with Robert Jones, Director of Community Outreach. During the tour and presentation, students learned about the work of public defenders and their role in representing clients.

Suit Up students began their third week with a tour of the Louisiana Supreme Court, including its library and museum. Students had the opportunity to hear from Chief Justice John L. Weimer and Associate Justice Piper D. Griffin. Additional presentations were delivered by Miriam D. Childs, Director of the Louisiana Supreme Court Library, and Trina S. Vincent, Deputy Judicial Administrator for Community Relations.
