It was a great weekend in New Orleans for Emory NICU at the American Academy of Pediatrics National Conference & Exhibition for multiple reasons!
Dr. Stefi Barbian (3rd year fellow) received the prestigious Marshall Klaus Perinatal Research Award to continue her basic science research on the microbiome of premature infants.
Dr. Anna Kate Moen (2nd year fellow) received a travel grant through Abbott Nutrition to represent the Career Development Committee of the Trainees and Early Career Neonatologists (TECaN) organization.
Heidi Eigenrauch Karpen, Emory NICU Fellowship Assistant Program Director, also completed the Jazz Half Marathon and finished first in the female relay division.
Congratulations to all on some great achievements!

Today was Dr. Karpen’s annual pig lab for all of the fellows to refresh on some very critical procedures that they don’t often get to do, including chest tube placement and pericardiocentesis, but can be life-saving if needed. Thank you, Dr. Karpen, for another great course!

Emory NICU fellowship boot camp is underway! Dr. Karpen's pig procedure lab was a success for our incoming fellows and current fellows to practice their NICU procedure skills.
