Tonight will be my final class at Wild Lotus Yoga. I am grateful for the opportunity to teach yoga at Wild Lotus since 2014. It has been a wonderful journey. It can be difficult to let go of the safety found in what has been known, but I feel called to leap into the mystery of life. Please come practice yoga with me tonight at 6:00, while we celebrate and remember all that has brought us here. May our paths cross again!

Several times a year my partner Nathalia and I travel to visit with our friend Geronimo Sharup and his family in the Ecuadorian Amazon near the banks of the Pastaza river. Of course, the pandemic has kept us from one another in the last year but we look forward to seeing Geronimo and listening to his magical stories.

Geronimo is a bone healer, abuelo, and elder in his Shuar community. His gentle presence and humorous spirit is a joy to be around. I love listening to him tell stories from his life and his culture. Walking together through the rainforest, he enjoys sharing his knowledge and relationship with plants, pointing out various species and how the Shuar have used them for food and medicine. No trip to Geronimo’s is complete without him proudly showing the sacred cave he guards.

Luckily, we were able to visit with Geronimo and his wife Clementina last January before the pandemic happened. Still I miss spending time with them and I’m grateful to have Geronimo as a friend, teacher, and part of the global community of Spirit.

From our first moment until our very last, the breath is the thread that weaves together each moment into the tapestry of our lived experience. It is no wonder why pranayama is foundational in the practice of yoga.

In this 4-week course, immerse yourself in both the history and philosophy of pranayama and yoga while experiencing the living practice of the breath. Develop the skills to continue to practice pranayama after the course. Explore and observe how something as simple as the breath can bring changes in states of consciousness

You can sign up for this online course . Beginning April 19th, we will meet through zoom once a week for 4 weeks.

Investment: Sliding Scale Fee Based On Your Means: $80/$60/$40

If you have the means, please pay at the $80 or $60 levels to support accessibility to our community.

Like many of us, the last year has been one filled with challenges and with those challenges ample time for reflection. Faced with questions and uncertainty, my personal practice often felt more like an obstacle than a refuge. Despite this feeling, growth would inevitably arise in the midst of discomfort, though not immediately.

In hindsight, this experience of loss and at times disillusionment has made one thing abundantly clear. I am grateful for my community. Sangha, one of the three jewels of Buddhism, is important to me and, in all my years of practice, perhaps something I’ve often taken for granted. Paying lip service to the value of community, the abundance of support I have felt in the past was the very wall that hid my awareness from it. It wasn’t until confronting and being honest about my own isolation that I could truly understand the depth of my love for the many friends I’ve made through the years.

It has been a little more than a year now since my last class and longer still since visiting other studios, offering workshops and sound baths. I’ve missed singing mantra and sharing in deep conversation with friends both old and new. My heart longs to return to and see my friends there as well. That same heart smiles knowing that though the future is unknown, I now have a deeper understanding of the love that calls us together. Whenever and wherever we are together again, our embrace of friendship and love will hold all the more weight.

With compassion and humility, I’m excited to announce the rescheduled retreat from last year. With vaccines becoming more available and continuing to practice the safety protocols we all know too well at this point, a path has opened to share space and yoga with one another in the Galapagos. This retreat was originally scheduled for last year and I’ve been looking forward to offering it again.

Tales of the Tortoise is May 22-27 and the price is $1500. Meals and lodging are included in that price but airfare is not.

The Galapagos is a truly unique place and it’s diversity of life offers a great space for reflection on interconnection with nature and each other. Through in depth and daily yoga practices and discussions, cultivate appreciation for your blessings, the blessings of others, and how we can create symbiosis in our lives.

In the context of ceremony, cacao is an incredibly potent way of opening the heart to connection and transformation. I’m happy to be working with in a fundraiser this weekend for the Leona Tate Foundation for Change. As part of this fundraiser you can bid on a private cacao ceremony accompanied by a demonstration on preparing cacao and a 1 lb box of cacao paste from my partner’s family farm

This cacao is completely processed by hand and grown organically. It comes from the rare Fine Aroma cacao plants of Ecuador. If you are interested in this or other ways of supporting this great cause take a look at the online auction, practice in a live in person yoga class at Crescent Park on Saturday, or sign up for the online practice on Sunday.

Hey y’all, we could probably all use some laughter right now. This is Unintentional Community a pilot episode I co-created with my friend .sanderson . For those who were never able to catch it at film festivals or screenings, please enjoy. If you already saw it, well you can watch it again. It’s comedy in the mockumentary style like the Office poking fun at archetypes and tropes in spiritual communities.
