New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation's Heritage School of Music

A free after-school music program for kids ages 11 to 17, it teaches the fundamentals of jazz performance and theory in a classroom setting.
Students also get numerous opportunities throughout the year to perform for the public, including at Jazz Fest. In 2010, the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation named Derek Douget as the new coordinator of the Heritage School of Music. In addition to Derek, who teaches woodwinds, the teaching faculty consists of: Edward “Kidd” Jordan (fundamentals); Michael Pellera (piano); Peter Harris (bass); John Bagnato (guitar); Leon Brown (brass); p. Ricky Sebastian (drums); and Leah Chase (voice).
