Christian service remains central to Jesuit’s mission of forming men for others, and Blue Jays continue to answer that call through meaningful acts of service in the New Orleans community. Building on the success of last year’s inaugural Easter Drive, this year’s effort expanded significantly, involving all pre-freshmen theology classes in more than 10 days of lunchtime deliveries during the Easter season.

Throughout the drive, students stepped away from their normal lunch routines to load busses, carry baskets, and personally deliver items to families across the community. By extending the spirit of the Thanksgiving Drive into the spring semester, students continue to learn that service is not confined to a single season. Instead, the Easter Drive encourages Blue Jays to see servant leadership as an ongoing commitment rooted in compassion, presence, and community.

He shared personal anecdotes and historical reflections on the origins of Jesuit education, illustrating how service, mercy, and faith remain at the heart of the Jesuit mission.

On May 21, 2026, at the Pontchartrain Center, the Class of 2026 officially joined the ranks of Blue Jay alumni. Graduating seniors celebrated their achievements in the presence of faculty, staff, family, and friends.

The class was awarded 212 diplomas by Fr. John Brown, S.J. This year’s valedictorian, Connor A. As graduation approaches, members of the Class of 2026 gathered with their families in the Chapel of the North American Martyrs for the annual Baccalaureate Mass, a longstanding Jesuit tradition that celebrates the accomplishments of graduating seniors while offering thanksgiving for their years at Carrollton & Banks.

Seniors processed into the chapel alongside classmates, faculty, and family members for the liturgy, which served as a moment of reflection, gratitude, and prayer before Commencement Exercises. At the conclusion of Mass, Principal Dr. Jeremy Reuther ’01 announced several academic, athletic, and service awards for seniors.

Jesuit has named Scott Bairnsfather as its next athletic director following a national search that drew candidates from coast to coast and included interviews with leaders from multiple states, Catholic schools, independent schools, and public-school athletic programs.

Bairnsfather brings decades of experience as a Catholic educator, coach, and athletic administrator. Since joining Jesuit in 2017, he has served as a teacher, department chair, assistant athletic director, and football coach. In his current role, he has managed athletic scheduling and logistics, coordinated budgets, and worked closely with coaches across Jesuit’s athletic program.

“Coach Bairnsfather has earned the respect of our coaches because he understands their work, supports their programs, and holds himself to the same standards he expects of others,” said Jesuit principal Dr. Jeremy Reuther ’01. “He knows the Catholic League, he knows the LHSAA, and he knows Jesuit. Most importantly, he understands that athletics here must serve the formation of our students. I couldn’t be more excited for the future of Jesuit athletics.”

“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve Jesuit in this role,” Bairnsfather said. “Our coaches care deeply about our students, and I look forward to supporting them as we continue building programs that develop young men for others. Jesuit athletics has a proud history, and our responsibility is to honor that history by developing each student into the man that God made him to be.”

Longtime coach, teacher, and athletic director David Moreau will assume the role of emeritus athletic director, ensuring a successful transition. Jonathan Orillion ’01 will step into the assistant athletic director role in the fall as well.

Track & Field delivered one of its strongest performances, earning the state runner-up trophy at the LHSAA Division I State Championship behind a collection of state titles, podium finishes, and record-breaking performances at LSU’s Bernie Moore Track Stadium.

Junior Jai’ir Burks captured the state title in the 110-meter hurdles with a blazing time of 13.73, setting both a composite and class record in the event. He returned later in the meet to win the 300-meter hurdles in 37.97, completing a dominant sweep of the hurdle events and contributing valuable points toward Jesuit’s runner-up finish.

Senior Connor Fanberg added another state championship for the Blue Jays in the 1600 meters, crossing the line in 4:04.90 to break a 44-year-old Louisiana composite record while also setting a new class record and delivering one of the top distance performances in state meet history. Fanberg also scored points in the 800 meters with a seventh-place finish.

The team’s performance capped a season marked by consistency and depth across every event group. With multiple state champions, several podium finishes, and new composite and class records added to the program’s history, the Blue Jays once again proved themselves among Louisiana’s premier track and field programs.

Junior Joshua Chaix, the son of Lisa and Michael Chaix and an alumnus of St. Mary Magdalen school, earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Eagle Scout is the highest achievement attainable in the Scouts BSA (https://www.scouting.org/) program of the Boy Scouts of America. Scouts BSA aims to develop leaders who cultivate a love of service through community volunteering, aligning closely with Jesuit’s cultivation of servant leadership as it forms Blue Jays into men for others.

Chaix earned the rank of Eagle Scout after completing 35 merit badges, the National Outdoor Award for Camping, the Complete Angler Award, and the Standup Paddleboard Award. For his Eagle service project, he designed and painted two pickleball courts for students at Thomas Jefferson Advanced Studies Academy in Gretna.

At Jesuit, Chaix is a member of the Pro Life Club, Fishing Club, and National Honor Society while also lettering on the Track and Field team. He has served as both senior patrol leader and assistant senior patrol leader in Scouting and attended the National Youth Leadership Training program. Outside of school, he belongs to St. Philip Neri Catholic Youth Organization and volunteers at East Jefferson General Hospital. He hopes to study biomedical engineering or chemical engineering with a pre-med emphasis in college and is considering schools such as the University of Mississippi and the University of Alabama.
