Southern Yacht Club Competes at the USODA Team Race Nationals

Southern Yacht Club sent two teams to the 2026 USODA Team Race Nationals, held September 17–20 at Larchmont Yacht Club in New York. It was an amazing event filled with competitive racing, challenging conditions, and valuable learning experiences for all of our sailors. Larchmont Yacht Club were outstanding hosts and provided a fantastic venue for the championship.

The first two days brought beautiful sailing conditions, with sunny skies and winds ranging from 6 to 15 knots. The final day was warm and rainy, with winds around 12 knots.
Both SYC Black and SYC Gold sailed tough throughout the event.

SYC Black

The Black Team had an outstanding first day, going undefeated in their assigned group on the Blue Course and earning a spot in the Gold Fleet.
One of the highlights of the day was SYC Black handing LISOT Black its only loss of the opening round. LISOT Black ultimately went on to win the championship. Congratulations to Team Lisot Black!

After the first day, the 27 teams were divided into Gold and Silver Fleets.
SYC Black had a difficult start to the second day, finishing with a 3–8 record, but the team bounced back strongly on the final day, going 4–2.
The Black Team finished 10th overall out of 27 teams and 3rd in their final group.

SYC Gold

SYC Gold narrowly missed qualifying for the Gold Fleet after a tough Sail-Off involving four teams at the conclusion of their opening round on the Gold Course.
They came back with an amazing second day, putting together an impressive 11–1 record.

The team faced some tough racing on the final day and dropped several close races, ultimately finishing 4th in the Silver Fleet.

A Great Learning Experience

All in all, this was a solid event for Southern Yacht Club and an incredibly valuable learning experience for our sailors. This was the first time SYC has attended the USODA Team Race Nationals, and every sailor came away from the event with a much better understanding of team racing and valuable experience competing at a major championship.

Our next major team-racing event will be the USODA Team Race Midwinters, and we are excited to take everything we learned in Larchmont and continue building from here.We are extremely proud of all of our sailors. They fought hard, supported one another, learned a tremendous amount, and represented Southern Yacht Club with pride.

The future of SYC Team Racing is bright, and we are excited about what lies ahead. We are very close to greatness! It’s a process.

Congratulations to the Team SYC Advanced Opti's who participated in the GYA Back to School Regatta hosted by Pontchartrain Yacht Club Sept 12th and 13th. We are proud of all our sailors! Everett Blouin won Overall! Four of our sailors participated in the Advanced Opti Fleet.
