In the wake of Hurricane Katrina tragedy, an unprecedented new system of public education was put into place. In the last century, no city had ever abolished attendance zones, turned over the vast majority of schools to private operators, or regularly closed schools mainly because of low test scores. The goal of Era-New Orleans is to understand how these reforms have influenced teaching and learning in the city’s schools.
