UT Health San Antonio SPEA is already setting the tone for the year 🦷

Their first general meeting brought in Dr. Wayne Radwanski and Dr. Fred Voorhees to speak on ethical dilemmas in private practice and the realities of life in oral surgery - straight from the people living it.

This is exactly what SPEA chapters are for: closing the gap between the classroom and the career.

Shoutout to UW SPEA for an incredible year 🦷✨
From faculty tooth fairy competitions (yes, those are real tutus on real professors) to lunch & learns on malpractice and risk management, to handmaking winter care packages for students during finals, they did it all.

This is what SPEA chapters look like in action: building community, creating safe spaces to learn about professionalism, and having a little fun along the way.

🧚 Tooth Fairy Competition - student vote decided which faculty had to show up to clinic in costume

🎓 Lunch & Learns - real talk on malpractice & risk management

🎁 Winter Care Packages - assembled by hand for their dental school community.
Proud to have chapters like UW on the SPEA national team 💙

A second opinion comes with responsibility. 🦷⚖️
When a patient asks you directly about the quality of their care, honesty isn’t optional; it’s your ethical duty. But how you deliver that honesty matters just as much!
The best clinicians know how to advocate for their patients while maintaining professionalism and respect for their colleagues.
Where do you draw the line between honesty and professional courtesy?

This has been a hot topic recently as dental influencer pages continue to grow! Let’s talk about the ethics of it all!!

Clinical photos are commonly used in dentistry for education, documentation, and communication. However, sharing patient images comes with ethical and professional responsibilities.

Before posting any clinical photos, it’s important to ensure that patient privacy and confidentiality are fully protected. Written consent, removal of identifiers, and following institutional policies are essential steps to maintain trust and professionalism.

As future dental professionals, we have to always remember that ethical practice extends beyond the clinic - including how we use social media.
