Developing learners for a changing world The Learning Lab (TLL) was inspired by the founder Dr. Brown-Joseph’s a.k.a. Dr. LBJ went on to complete Jr.
Dr. LBJ vision to start a charter school in the greater New Orleans area. TLL later turned into an e-learning program to meet the diverse academic needs of learners globally. Dr. LBJ is a proud product of New Orleans Public Schools and dreamed of one day returning home to make a difference in the lives of learners, by founding an organization that would serve as a community-based education hub tha
t provides tools and resources to empower learners to grow and develop academically while also pursing and exploring their interests. TLL believes that learners should be able to explore what the world has to offer in terms of learning experiences and careers that they can not only be proud of but appreciate for years to come. The founder was stimulated by her own past educational experiences and believes that learners should be empowered to take charge of their own learning experiences. Dr. LBJ’s educational journey began at McD#15 Creative Arts School in the French Quarter provided the founder with exciting, valuable and memorable experience that contributed to the person she is today. Her learning experiences included making ceramics, tie dye, drawing/sketching art on the river front, publishing and illustrating books which made her feel like should could do anything she set out to do in life. In addition, social and communication skills were also developed, which has allowed her to develop a positive rapport with others and influence positive productivity in the work place, learning environment and the community as whole. High School at Charles J. Colton and high school at the top of her class at Alcee Fortier Senior High. Due to circumstance the founder was unable to properly plan for college, but had high aspirations to attend. Being the mother of a child with special needs and another child on the way before graduating high school she took classes, such as typing 1, 2, and 3 and filing, which allowed her to gain skills that she could use in the work place if she did not get the opportunity to attend college. However, she applied to Xavier University because she wanted to become a doctor and decided that if she did not get into Xavier that she would attend Delgado Community College. Dr. LBJ ended up attending Xavier University and went on to earn several degrees in education to include her PhD that has inspired her to create an e-learning program customized to utilize innovative technology platforms and tools to give learners the opportunity to follow their interests toward to the future with a more personalized learning option. Dr. LBJ’s lifelong philosophy statement is based on one of our most famous western philosophers John Dewey, and he states that a learning environment based on the shared experiences of a community of learners should be created. She believes that shared knowledge of life experiences will help learners and adults to be more motivated and lead successful and productive lives. Because the founder has been in the trenches most of her career with learners, her most interesting and challenging experiences are centered-on the learners. They are who she has served and all that she does to enhance her knowledge and expand her professional career is recycled and re-used to help them to get where she is or beyond.
