I love seeing their smiling face.Listen to their excitement and laughter. It just melts my heart ❤️this is why I do what I do. You never know what a child’s home life may look like, but when they are with me, I make sure they have everything they need learning,love, hugs, kindness, and a full belly.

Why We Do Self-Portraits

During our “All About Me” theme, self-portraits give children the chance to explore who they are and celebrate their uniqueness. By drawing themselves, they practice noticing details like hair, eye color, and expressions, which helps them build self-awareness and confidence in their identity. This activity also develops fine motor skills as they hold crayons or markers, strengthening the same muscles they will use for writing letters and numbers. Looking closely in a mirror or photo also builds focus, patience, and attention to detail, while giving them a chance to show how they see themselves.

Self-portraits are also a powerful way for children to express emotions and practice communication. As they describe their work—“This is me with my curly hair” or “I made my shirt red”—they grow their vocabulary and confidence in sharing ideas. When their portraits are displayed together, children can see that everyone is unique but equally important, which fosters respect for differences and a sense of belonging in the classroom.
