Nurse Advancers,
The partnership began almost a year ago. Old Algiers Main Street a local nonprofit & Advance Nursing Training partnered to offer job training focused on the individuals living primarily in the Old Algiers community.
The students attend our 5 week CNA program tuition free and are also paid to attend. ( thanks to the Old Algiers nonprofit)
We have changed so many lives. The phone calls I receive are my motivation. Many of the participants are traveling across the US working as CNA’s. While some decided to stay to meet the critical shortage here in New Orleans. When I hear of someone that was at a minimum wage salary move to almost Triple the wage or someone that did not have transportation or housing, move in to that new home and purchase that car. I know We did it and are continuing to do it!!!! 💪💪💚💙

Jackson and the Main Street organization recognized that many residents struggled to stay in their community. They wanted to create a job training program in a field that had few barriers to entry but opportunities for advancement. The project was dubbed .

They found a project partner down the street: Advance Nursing Training, a nursing school started by Melanie McCrary in 2014. McCrary grew up in the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans and went on to be a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) for 9 years. The healthcare field provided opportunities for her, so she started the school to help others. It’s a small business that struggled to get start-up financing, a common experience for women-owned and minority businesses. However with assistance from the Lift Fund, McCrary now employs seven people, with 10 to 25 students in each cohort.
