✨Student Spotlight: Yellena Rodriguez✨
Yellena has grown immensely in the last year and a half. As a second-year student and one of the first in her family to go to college, she is proactive in serving the communities she’s a part of. Her strength is her ability to follow through and speak up for those who can’t, as demonstrated by her roles as VP-LA of UNO SGA & President of UNO’s Lit Club (which she co-founded).
“In the future, I see Yellena with her own startup, supporting students to improve literacy rates (by publishing her own works or as a professor), or even as a potential politician. She has the charisma, motivation, work ethic, and dedication to accomplish whatever it is she sets her mind to.”— Coach Carolyn

✨Student Spotlight: Alex Rusnak ✨
Alex Rusnak is a 2024 College Beyond graduate who overcame much adversity during her undergraduate years. As a result, she’s learned how to become fully independent, empathize with others, and demonstrate kindness in tough situations.
Alex has always strived to make the world better — doing so by stepping into club leadership roles and working as an assistant music therapist in the Greater New Orleans area.
Now in her post-graduate years, she plans to formalize that by enrolling in a Master’s program for Social Work.

We’re excited to welcome two amazing interns to the College Beyond team this semester!
First, meet Happiea Martin, an MSW intern who loves crawfish and lives by the quote, “If you believe in yourself, anything is possible.” Happiea brings positivity, dedication, and a passion for supporting others as she continues her work in social work.
Next, we have Rahshnica “Minnie” Kilpatrick, a College Beyond Intern and Master of Social Work student at Southern University at New Orleans. Minnie is the oldest of nine siblings, which helped inspire her passion for helping others. She loves cashews and energy drinks (especially 7brew!) and is excited to learn how to better support students while applying the skills she’s gaining through both her university and College Beyond experience. One quote she shares is, “We don’t create value—we were created with value.”
We’re so excited to have them on our team and can’t wait to see the impact they will make this semester! 🎉
