Garcia, Jewett, and Collins Move to Intervene in Louisiana Congressional Map Case Ahead of June 17 Federal Court Hearing
LOUISIANA — The United States District Court for the Western District of Louisiana, Monroe Division, has issued an order setting a hearing for June 17, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. to review Louisiana’s newly enacted congressional map under Act 2 of the 2026 Regular Session.
The hearing will take place in Courtroom 1 of the United States Courthouse, 300 Fannin Street, Shreveport, Louisiana, before a three-judge panel consisting of United States Circuit Judge Carl E. Stewart, Judge David C. Joseph, and Judge Robert R. Summerhays.
The case, Phillip Callais, et al. v. Nancy Landry, Civil Docket No. 3:24-CV-00122, will determine whether Louisiana’s newly enacted congressional plan satisfies the requirements set forth in Louisiana v. Callais.
Lindsay “Rubia” Garcia, Lauren Jewett, and Eugene Collins have moved to intervene in the case. An official ruling on their motion to intervene is expected on or after June 5, 2026.
Garcia, Jewett, and Collins continue to press critical issues surrounding the constitutionality of the executive order, the cancellation of party primaries, the throwing out of ballots, and the need to ensure that a fair congressional map is adopted for Louisiana voters.
These issues remain outstanding in the live federal case and are central to the position Garcia, Jewett, and Collins are currently taking before the court.
The court has ordered that any party seeking to address the validity or effect of Act 2 must file a brief no later than June 5, 2026. Any opposition or response brief must be filed no later than June 12, 2026. The hearing may continue on June 18, 2026, if necessary.
Garcia, Jewett, and Collins will continue to monitor the case closely and advocate for fair representation, voter access, constitutional protections, and political power for communities across Louisiana.
