One month ago, our halls were filled with curiosity, laughter, learning, and unforgettable memories.

It’s hard to believe it’s already been a month since our Breakthrough New Orleans students wrapped up Summer Academy! From hands-on experiments and creative projects to new friendships and big accomplishments, this summer was one to remember.

We miss seeing our students every day, but we’re so proud of all they accomplished and can’t wait to see what this school year brings.

🎶 All summer long, students in Ms. Lucy’s Songwriting Short Course have been developing their creativity, finding their voices, and practicing their songwriting skills. From brainstorming lyrics to crafting original songs, they’ve put in the work and now it’s almost time to share it!

We can’t wait to hear what they’ve created at our End of Summer Celebration this Friday. Get ready for an amazing performance! 🎤✨

📚✈️ Our students put their Goodnight, Mister Tom knowledge to the test during The Great Escape! After creating their own passports, they “traveled” from destination to destination, completing challenges based on the novel’s characters, events, and themes.

From sequencing plot events and answering comprehension questions to acting out key scenes and tackling an obstacle course, students were fully engaged every step of the way. The energy was high, the teamwork was amazing, and the competition was friendly!

We love finding creative ways to bring learning to life, and our students rose to every challenge. What a fun way to celebrate all they’ve learned from our class book! 📖✨

Smiles, laughter, and nonstop fun were on full display as BTNOLA students headed to Surge Entertainment this past week for a well-earned break from their academic adventures, and while the games were exciting, the best part was seeing the friendships that continue to grow every day. Whether they were celebrating victories, encouraging one another, or simply enjoying time together, our students showed that the connections they build at Breakthrough New Orleans are just as meaningful as the lessons they learn. Here’s to making memories, strengthening friendships, and getting ready for another great week! 💙🎉

Science came to life for our 8th graders during their Strawberry DNA Extraction Lab! 🍓🔬

Students had the opportunity to pull real DNA out of a strawberry and see the building blocks of life up close. Hands-on experiences like this help bring classroom lessons to life and spark curiosity about the world around us.

Our students were fully engaged, asking great questions, and having fun while learning. We love seeing science in action at Breakthrough New Orleans! ✨

We’re back after a week-long break and ready to jump back into learning!

Before we get started, we’re looking back at some highlights from our last week before the break. From exciting classes and activities to an unforgettable Talent Show, our students ended the first half of the summer on a high note.

The Talent Show was a huge hit, and the talent at BTNOLA is truly unmatched! We loved seeing our students showcase their creativity, confidence, and unique gifts. We can’t wait to see what the rest of the summer has in store.

Science + Balloons = The Perfect STEM Day! 🎈🧪
Today our 9th grade students explored how different compounds can produce oxygen gas. Watching the balloons fill up was an exciting way to see chemical reactions happen right before our eyes!

We are so grateful to all of our Career Day participants who joined us yesterday! From construction and banking to convention center operations, medicine, psychology, and marketing, our students had the opportunity to learn about so many different career paths and hear firsthand about the journeys that led you there.

Our students left inspired and excited about their futures because of the time you spent sharing your experiences, advice, and encouragement. Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedules to be with us and support the students of Breakthrough New Orleans. We truly appreciate your partnership and the impact you made on our students. 💙🧡

Our annual Career Day is here! We started the morning with our Style Show, and our students looked fantastic in their professional attire. It’s always exciting to see them step into the day with confidence and enthusiasm.

We’re looking forward to welcoming our Career Day presenters this afternoon and hearing about their career journeys, experiences, and the role education played in helping them reach their goals. Thank you to all of the professionals who are taking time out of their day to invest in our students and inspire them to dream big about their futures.

Week Two of BTNOLA is in the books! 🎉

It may have been a short week due to Tropical Storm Arthur, but that didn’t stop our students from learning, having fun, and showing their incredible BTNOLA spirit every day! From hands-on experiments to engaging activities and new experiences, our students made the most of every moment.

We’ve got a big week ahead, and we can’t wait to share all the exciting things our students will be involved in. Stay tuned for more BTNOLA experiences and discoveries! 💙💛
