We're thrilled to introduce our Data Science Achievement Award Winners! π₯³
These graduating seniors have shown exceptional dedication and excellence in data science through their academic work and involvement in CAIDS student programs.
Today, we're spotlighting Gabrielle Muna.
Here's what Gabrielle says about her time at CAIDS:
"I am a senior graduating with a B.S. in psychology and anthropology. I was involved in CAIDS through two classes taught by Dr. Dilks, Introduction to Data and Text and Qualitative Data Analysis. CAIDS classes have provided me with foundational skills for navigating the world of data, by increasing accessibility, and making it engaging. My experience with these courses is what ultimately shaped my decision to pursue a career in data postgrad. Building on this foundation, I was recently offered a fully funded master's degree in biomedical informatics through Tulane's School of Medicine, alongside a position with the Division of Biomedical Informatics."
We're so proud of everything you've accomplished, Gabrielle! π

What does it look like when AI meets community-based care?
Farah Allouch, assistant professor at the Celia Scott Weatherhead School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine (WSPH), is exploring that question through Heartline, a project that brings together artificial intelligence, community health workers, and faith-based organizations to support cardiovascular disease prevention.
Rather than replacing healthcare providers, Heartline is designed to extend their reach by offering real-time, personalized support between visits. The platform can help users translate clinical guidance into everyday actions, like generating grocery lists that align with heart-healthy dietary patterns.
The project is supported by a seed grant from CAIDS and WSPH, and it's being developed through direct collaboration with community members.
