STATE CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHT: Dr. Sarah Irvin will speak on the topic "The Wounded Healer: Ethical Self-Care through Forgiveness" at NAMI Mississippi's 2021 State Conference! View the preliminary agenda and learn how to register or sponsor at namims.org/conference2021.
Dr. Sarah D. Irvin, Assistant Professor in the Professional Counseling Program, received her Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from the University of Holy Cross in New Orleans. She received her M.A. degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Delta State University and her B.A. in Educational Psychology from Mississippi State University. Her research interests include counselor wellness and self-care, forgiveness, and counselor supervision. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor who specialized in working with clients coping with severe mental illnesses. She has presented multiple topics, including dealing with mental illness, psychosocial rehabilitation programs, coordination of online clinical supervision, self-care, and forgiveness. When presenting on forgiveness, she enjoys sharing personal forgiveness experiences and allows her audience to share their forgiveness experiences. Dr. Irvin truly believes that a regular forgiveness practice could improve many person’s self-care abilities.

The Education Department is proud to announce that one current student and four former students have been selected as members of the Jefferson Parish Schools Superintendent’s Teacher Council. The 20-member Superintendent’s Teacher Council is designed to capture teachers’ insights, suggestions and perspectives on critical issues in Jefferson Parish Schools. The Council will work to inform the Superintendent and district with qualitative and quantitative data that will enable them to make better instructional and administrative decisions. Congratulations!
