Celeste Mendoza was born in Santiago de Cuba, in 1930. Her ability to sing, and dance the musical genre Rumba guaguancos was exceptional. It was very rare to see a woman perform Rumba guaguancos. She paved the way for Afro-Cuban women performers.

Sylvia Robinson was a singer, songwriter, producer, and record label executive. One of her earliest musical career was being half of duo Mickey and Sylvia (1955-1965).
She was the CEO and one of the founders of Sugar Hill Records, where she was also the driving force of two early hip-hop classics - Rapper’s Delight by Sugarhill Gang and The Message by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five (which she also co-produced and co-wrote). Because of this, she was nicknamed the Mother of Hip-Hop.
