We focus on innovation, creativity, and academic growth to support every learner. Capdau opened in the early 1920s as a junior high school at 3821 Franklin Avenue in New Orleans, LA. It operated as a district-run junior high school until 2003. In 2005, Hurricane Katrina ravaged the city and thus closing Capdau’s doors This period caused a transformation of Capdau and the creation of the school we
know today. In August 2006, the University of New Orleans launched Pierre Capdau Early College High School. In December 2008, the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) granted UNO a Type 5 Charter to operate Thurgood Marshall Early College High School for the 2009–10 school year closing Pierre Capdau Early College High. Then Capdau became a K-8 school being housed at the old Thurgood Marshall Campus at 4621 Canal St. Capdau merged with Gentilly Terrace and students filled the brand-new, state of the art Avery Alexander building at 5800 St. Roch Avenue. In 2019, Pierre A. Capdau joined InspireNOLA Charter Schools, which is the highest performing, open-enrollment Charter Management Organization in the city of New Orleans. Capdau has already received Excellent ratings from the state for its Early Education Programs for several years. Joining the InspireNOLA family as its newest school, we expect to continue and extend that legacy of excellence.
