Senior year can feel like it arrives overnight.

College visits. Applications. Essays. Financial aid forms. SATs and ACTs. Decisions about majors, schools and careers.

And somewhere in the middle of all that, there are scholarships. Don't wait until spring to start looking. September is a great time for students and parents to create a scholarship plan, keep track of deadlines and start gathering the information they'll need.

The John Pettibone Memorial Scholarship Fund will be sharing information throughout the school year to help keep local families informed.

Today, we recognize the hard work and dedication of the people who make our communities stronger every day. That includes the teachers, administrators and school staff who show up for our students day after day, encouraging them, challenging them and helping prepare them for what comes next.

As we begin a new school year and our local seniors start thinking about their futures, we’re especially grateful for the educators who help guide them along the way.

To all the workers, educators and community members who give their time, talent and energy to make a difference: thank you.

As Connecticut families gear up for the new school year, buses are back on the road, crosswalks are busier, and school zones are active again.
