For everyone who has been wondering about the garden and greenhouse space at the school, here’s an update:

We have been working hard to remove trash and unwanted materials as a first step toward restoring the soil health in that garden area. We have hauled numerous dump trailers and pickup loads of trash, unwanted materials, cardboard, branches, pruning debris, and more. We’ve also been pulling up raised beds to relocate them within the garden and give them a new soil base. In addition, we have been tackling noxious w**ds and other pests, as well as pruning trees and berry plants.

A significant amount of time has gone into transforming this space into a functional student area with minimal maintenance requirements.
We are now at a point where we can begin landscaping and organizing the area. We have installed a heater in the greenhouse, acquired tables, laid down w**d cloth, added a gravel floor to improve functionality, and more.
Currently, our plan is to continue using the greenhouse to grow and sell plants each year. We are working to get the w**d problem under control and will be relocating the raised beds to the end of the garden behind the shed. This will allow us to create usable garden plots in the area between the greenhouse and the shed.

Looking ahead, we hope to create a space where students can garden during the summer if they choose, and where community members can rent a garden plot or raised bed to grow their own produce. With the amount of time and effort being invested into this space, we want to ensure it does not become out of control again, so it will be managed differently than in previous years.
