WCTEC to Launch New Pre-Cosmetology Program
Thursday, August 13th from 9-2 Open House

The Wetzel County Technical Education Center (WCTEC) is excited to announce the addition of a Pre-Cosmetology program beginning with the 2026-2027 school year. The new program expands career and technical education opportunities for students while helping meet the growing demand for licensed beauty professionals throughout West Virginia.

The two-year Pre-Cosmetology program will provide students with a strong foundation in the science and art of cosmetology through classroom instruction and extensive hands-on training in a modern salon environment. Students will learn hair care, hair cutting, styling, chemical services, shampooing, scalp treatments, sanitation, infection control, customer service, communication, and professional ethics while developing the technical and employability skills needed to succeed in the beauty industry.

Any current junior from Wetzel County or Tyler County who is interested in the Pre-Cosmetology program is invited to attend an informational open house at the Wetzel County Technical Education Center on Thursday, August 13, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Prospective students and their families will have the opportunity to meet Ashley Watson, tour the new cosmetology lab, learn about the curriculum, ask questions, and complete an application for enrollment.

UPDATE!

The National TSA conference made an error in their results for the competition of Senior Solar Sprint. The WCTEC team of Tucker Postlethwaite, Jacob Norton and Rydge Moffitt actually place 3rd at the 2026 National TSA conference.

They will be sending out the students’ trophy and finalist pins. It has also been changed on the National TSA finalist record site as well.

It’s an understatement to say that we are extremely proud of the 4 WCTEC students that attended the National TSA Conference. ALL WCTEC students made the semifinals in their respective events. It’s a huge accomplishment and they represented their school, county and state extremely well. They worked hard, competed with respected and professionalism. They also networked with many students from many states across the nation as well as students from different countries such as Germany and Turkey. Congratulations to Tucker Postlethwaite, Rydge Moffitt, Jacob Norton and Vincent Sigley on a job well done.

WCTEC Students Tucker Postlethwaite, Jacob Norton and Rydge Moffitt made the semifinal round for Senior Solar Sprint. In the head to head races they placed 2nd in the nation for the tournament race out over 100 cars.
