🐾💙 Happy National Spoil Your Dog Day! 💙🐾
Today is the perfect excuse to give your four-legged family member a little extra love — although, let’s be honest, they probably think every day is Spoil Your Dog Day! 🐶🦴

USCGA Sponsor Families, we want to hear from YOU! 👇

How do you spoil your pets, cadets, or other members of your family? 😍

Is it:
🐾 Extra treats and belly rubs?
🐾 A favorite toy or special outing?
🐾 Homemade goodies?
🐾 Letting them take over the couch?
🐾 Your famous sponsor-family dinner?
🐾 Or maybe just making your cadet feel a little more at home?

Drop a photo 📸 or tell us your favorite way to spoil the ones you love in the comments!

Because whether they have four paws or wear shoulder boards, everyone deserves a little extra TLC. ⚓️💙

Celebrating our US Coast Guard today and for your support of these outstanding men and women!

🇺🇸 U.S. Coast Guard Day
(04/08/2026)

Every year on 4 August U.S. Coast Guard Day is observed to honour the establishment of the Revenue Marine on 4 August in 1790 by the Secretary of the Treasury Alexander Hamilton.

On that date, U.S. Congress, guided by Hamilton, authorized the building of a fleet of the first ten Revenue Service cutters, whose responsibility would be enforcement of the first tariff laws enacted by the U.S. Congress under the U.S. Constitution.

The U.S. Coast Guard received its present name through an act of the U.S. Congress signed into law by U.S. President Woodrow Wilson on January 28, 1915 that merged the Revenue Cutter Service with the U.S. Life-Saving Service, and provided the nation with a single maritime service dedicated to saving life at sea and enforcing the nation's maritime laws.

The U.S. Coast Guard began to maintain the country's maritime aids to navigation, including operating U.S. lighthouses, when President Franklin Roosevelt announced plans to transfer of the U.S. Lighthouse Service to the Coast Guard in May 1939. Congress approved the plan effective 1 July 1939. On 16 July 1946, Congress permanently transferred the Department of Commerce Bureau of Marine Inspection and Navigation to the Coast Guard, thereby placing merchant marine licensing and merchant vessel safety under Coast Guard regulation.

A heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who signed up to become a Sponsor Family for the USCGA Class of 2030! 💙⚓

Because of your generosity, every match that could be made with our current pool of sponsor families has now been made. Your willingness to open your home and support a cadet means more than you know. Thank you for helping these young men and women adjust to Academy life, military service, and being away from home.

📧 If you signed up but did not receive a matching email, please reach out to [email protected] so we can help answer your questions and confirm your status.

We still have 44 cadets who requested a Sponsor Family and are waiting to be matched.

If you've been considering becoming a Sponsor Family, there's still a wonderful opportunity to make a lasting impact. A welcoming home, a shared meal, or simply having a trusted place to go can make all the difference as these cadets navigate life at the Academy and adjust to being away from family and friends.
