It’s officially all hands on deck! This week, we welcomed back every member of the New London team, including teachers, associates, bus drivers, kitchen staff, custodians, office staff, maintenance, and everyone who helps make our schools a great place to learn.

Superintendent Dr. Cranston welcomed everyone back with a reminder that every person and every role matters as we continue on our journey together. Staff received a compass and reflection cards to help us think about where we’ve been and where we’re headed. We also had a fun and lively game of Family Feud to kick off the year!

Together, we’re ready for an amazing school year. We can’t wait to welcome our students back and make the 2026-2027 school year one to remember. Go Tigers!

New London families, please take a few minutes to review the attached letter regarding Iowa Senate File 2428 (SF 2428), which establishes requirements for how schools respond to classroom disruptions. The letter outlines what families can expect if a student is removed from class, including parent notification, required meetings, and next steps. Our goal is to keep families informed while continuing to provide a safe, respectful, and positive learning environment for every student.

Community Coaches and Weight Room Users:

We have recently had a change in our facility use policy which includes limited access to the weight room and gyms. Effective immediately, weight room and community coach key cards for anyone who is not a school district employee have been disabled.

We are working diligently to develop a plan that will allow for continued community use of the weight room. More information regarding weight room access and use will be shared in the near future.

If you have a practice or would like to use the weight room, there will be a process in place for requesting access through the Activities Department.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through this transition.

We will be moving the board meeting location to the Clark Elementary cafeteria as we are having AC issues in the secondary building, and we aren’t certain it will be fixed. The meeting is still at 6:00. Thanks!

In the wake of a destructive storm that tore through our small town, we have been reminded once again of the incredible strength and spirit of Southeast Iowa.

We have seen trees come down, power lost, vehicles damaged, and homes impacted, but we have also seen something equally powerful: people showing up for one another. Our community has rallied in ways that are truly humbling, with neighbors helping neighbors, businesses offering resources, and countless people lending a hand wherever needed.

Our fellow schools have been incredible as well. The Mt. Pleasant School District generously allowed us to use freezer space to save some of our most essential food supplies, and today, Pekin CSD sent four custodians to help us prepare for the start of the school year. We are so grateful for their time and teamwork!

This is what it means to be part of Southeast Iowa. When one community is hurting, others step up. We may be small communities, but we have big hearts.

From all of us at the New London Community School District, thank you. We are incredibly grateful to be part of a community and a region that take care of their own.

I want to make sure our community is aware of a conversation happening at Monday night's board meeting regarding access to our school facilities, including our gyms and weight room.
As I have stepped into this role, one of the things I have heard is that there is a need to tighten up some of our practices around building access and create clearer, more consistent expectations for how our facilities are used. At the same time, I recognize this is a change for community members who have used these spaces for many years and who support our schools through their tax dollars. I don't take that lightly.
We are working to find a balance that keeps our buildings secure, protects our district, prioritizes our students and school programs, and still provides reasonable opportunities for our community to use these spaces.
This will be on Monday night's board agenda. If this matters to you, I want you to know when the conversation is happening. You are welcome to attend and listen, and there will be an opportunity for public comment for those who would like to share their thoughts with the board, since this is on the agenda.
I appreciate how much this community cares about our schools, and I want to make sure you have the opportunity to be part of conversations like this.
