Our Trojans have been wowing us with their skills, determination, and ability to shine beyond the classroom! 🎉

🏆 NKHS DECA had an outstanding showing at Virginia DECA Day at the State Fair on September 30! Competing at The Meadow Event Park in Doswell, our students put their marketing, communication, creativity, and problem-solving skills to work in a variety of competitive events.

And they certainly made their mark! 👏
🥇 1st Place — Branding Challenge
🥇 1st Place — Promotional Pitch Deck Challenge
🥇🥈🥉 1st, 2nd & 3rd Place — New Competitor Role Play events

Our DECA Trojans also tackled a marketing-focused scavenger hunt throughout the State Fair, gaining valuable real-world experience along the way!

⚓ NKHS NNDCC also had a strong showing at the James River/Kecoughtan High School Combination Drill Meet, competing against regional schools in Athletics, Academics, Drill, Color Guard, and Exhibition events.

Our cadets earned:
🏆 3rd Place Overall — Academics
🏅 Best Male Athlete
🏅 Best Female Athlete

From the State Fair to the drill floor, our students are demonstrating what happens when skill, preparation, teamwork, and determination come together. We are incredibly proud of the way our Trojans represented NKHS and put their training and talents into action!

We shine our spotlight on two important groups who help assist our staff and students every day.

First, our Custodians are hard at work each day making sure that our school is a clean, safe, and welcoming space for our faculty, staff, and students. Their dedication shows every day! Friday, October 2nd was National Custodians Day and we are so proud to celebrate our great custodial team! Thank you Mr. Irvin, Mr. William, Ms. Brook, and Mr. Charlie.

Last week, we also took time to celebrate Educational Technology week. From setting up technology for our teachers and students to trobleshooting login issues and broken devices, the Technology department helps us all stay connected and moving forward with learning. We're grateful for their service and support!

Each and every day, there are so many who help make each day, each teacher, each student a success! 💙🤍

👨🏿‍🎓 Seniors and families- check out these announcements for the Class of 2027
👉 Jostens & Senior Assembly | Thursday, October 8th
🕘 Session 1: 9:00-9:45am OR Session 2: 🕜 1:20pm - 2:05pm
Seniors, remember, you only need to attend 1 session! Jostens will covering cap and gown and senior memorabilia ordering, and SGA will be going over important dates and information for the remainder of this school year.

❗Students who miss either assembly may pick up Jostens cap and gown order packets in the Main Office beginning Friday, October 9th.
👉 Senior parents/guardians - Save the date! Monday, October 12th Jostens will be back on campus from 5:00pm - 6:30pm to help answer questions about ordering caps and gowns and graduation items.

👶 Seniors and families! If you would like to have your baby picture featured in the Senior Slideshow during graduation, submit one baby picture through your student's Schoology account. Pictures must be in JPEG format. The submission link can be found on the Class of 2027 Schoology page.
❗️ Please note: the submission link will be open from October 7th - October 20th at 11:59pm. Late submissions will not be accepted and once closed, the link will not be reopened.

💃🏼 Homecoming 2026 "A Night In Greece" tickets are available online through the Givebacks App through October 16th. Tickets are $20 each. Students bringing a non-NKHS student must fill out a paper permission slip. All permission slips are due by October 16th.

👩🏻‍🏫 Reminding all 10th and 11th grade students who signed up for the PSAT, the PSAT will be held on Thursday, October 8th.

🙌Thankful Tuesday 🙌

We are in full swing at New Kent High School as we wrap up the month of September. We also want to wrap up our newest Trojan faculty and staff member introductions! We are thankful for the many skills, talents, and experiences they are bringing to NKHS!

Please welcome our newest member of the NKHS Exceptional Education Department-Ms. Alisha Hampton-Williams, paraprofessional!

Ms. Hampton-Williams is originally from Roanoke, Virginia. She began her educational career there as a Building Based Substitute at an elementary school. This experience helped develop a strong foundation in the classroom and supporting student learning.

Ms. Hampton-Williams loves spending time with her family. She also loves cats, making bracelets, reading books, and cooking. Ms. Hampton-Williams enjoys being outdoors and has a special fondness for tropical islands.

For the 2026-2027 school year, Ms. Hampton-Williams is excited to meet students and staff, continue to grow and learn, and having great moments.

🙌Thankful Tuesday 🙌

We are in full swing here at NKHS and as we wrap up the month of September, we wrap up our new faculty and staff introductions! We are thankful for the many skills, talents, and experiences they are already bringing to NKHS!

Please welcome our newest member of the NKHS Math Department -Ms. Sara Package! She is teaching our Algebra 1 classes.

Ms. Package grew up Ligonier, Pennsylvania. She graduated from William & Mary with both her Bachelor's and Master's degree in math education. She’s worked with all age groups in various teaching positions, but most recently taught high school freshmen as a resident here at New Kent!

Ms. Package has been doing tap dance for the past 15 years. Her favorite pastimes also include watching movies, doing puzzles, and reading good books. She loves spring. She likes to see the flowers bloom. Her favorite sport to watch is hockey--Go Penguins!

For the 2026-2027 school year, Ms. Package is excited to continue learning and growing at NKHS.

🙌 Thankful Thursday🙌

This Thankful Thursday, we want to share a Trojan Thank You to the New Kent Veterans, who, working alongside the NKHS NJROTC Booster Club, generously donated much-needed equipment to our growing NJROTC program.

Because of this generous donation, our cadets will have additional opportunities to train, perform, and compete at a high level. We are incredibly grateful to Mr. Steve Fox, the New Kent Veterans, and the NJROTC Booster Club for investing in our cadets and supporting the continued growth of our program!

The presentation was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate this partnership and the difference community support makes for our students. Our cadets showcased their training for guests, while Principal Allison Strickland and Mr. Fox celebrated this generous gift together.

Thank you to the New Kent community for continuing to support our students and their futures!💙🤍

Candid Color will be on campus Wednesday, September 23, for Underclassmen Picture Day. Students will be photographed for the yearbook and school identification. Be ready to put your best smile forward! 📸

‼️Parents, please take a moment to check your student's PowerSchool account for a red photo icon.
Students with this icon cannot be included in the yearbook without parent/guardian permission, so an NKCPS Media Release form must be signed and returned. The release includes permission for student images and information to be used in school publications, including the yearbook.

Seniors who still need to have their Senior Portrait taken will have one final opportunity this week.

📚 September is Attendance Awareness Month! At New Kent High School, we know that every school day—and every minute—matters.

Being present and on time is crucial for a successful year. Students who are absent for even one day miss valuable instructional time and can easily fall behind. Too many absences—excused and unexcused—can make it more difficult for students to succeed academically.

⏰ Let’s make every day count!
Please be sure your student comes to school on time and ready to learn every day. A strong start each morning helps students stay connected, keep up with their learning, and make the most of their school day.

📌 A few important attendance reminders:

Families are allowed 5 parent contacts per semester.
The first semester ends January 22, 2027.
Please be sure to contact the Attendance Office for each absence.

🙌Thankful Thursday 🙌

We're continuing to celebrate our newest faculty and staff members as they are fully engaged with our students and community! We are thankful for the many skills, talents, and experiences they are bringing to NKHS!

Please welcome our newest member of the NKHS School Counseling Team-Ms. Renee Johnson! She serves students and families with last names A-E.

Ms. Johnson lives in Mathews, Virginia. She attended Mary Baldwin College and Liberty University. Prior to joining us at NKHS, Ms. Johnson worked at Northumberland High School.

Ms. Johnson loves traveling and exploring new places. She recently traveled to Goult, France situated in the Luberon Valley. She loves being on the water, boating, and spending time with her dog, Izzie.

For the 2026-2027 school year, Ms. Johnson is excited to be on team New Kent, learn new things, and get to know the students/staff at NKHS.
