Happy Saturday greetings from MEEEE! Chaucer here, with a new volunteer opportunity to help homeless, neglected, and abused hounds. Best of all, you can do it at home in your favorite fuzzy slippers with your own furry friends right on your lap.

WANTED! Volunteers anywhere in the U.S. with flexible schedules who can help get our pups home faster by processing adoption applications. All you need is a sense or urgency, a phone, internet access, email and good people skills.

If the role described below fits you, please submit a volunteer application here: https://rescuedogsrocknyc.org/volunteer-application/

Carefully review applications, interview applicants, keep in touch with them through the process and research answers to their questions

Contact applicants' personal references, vets' offices and property management for their residences (as needed)

Update a spreadsheet with your notes and help determine if the application can move forward for a home visit.

Skills/attributes required:
* A sense of urgency; the ability to complete applications within 48 hours.
* Flexibility during East Coast business hours to talk with vets' offices and landlords.
* Basic computer skills; knowledge of Excel/Google sheets helpful.

This is a very useful article. Did you know that a whopping 4.5 million dog bites occur each year in the United States? (Centers for Disease Control statistic) All children should be taught how to communicate with us furry folks properly. ~Chaucer

Once upon a time, Abby was a proud K9 dog, serving her community with dedication and hard work. What happened during her retirement is a sad tale that only Abby knows in full. What her rescuers (Rescue Dogs Rock NYC and their vet partner) do know is this: Abby had an ear infection that was left untreated for so long she has burns down the entire right side of her face, and the inner-ear damage is permanent. Her rescuers need both financial donations and a wonderful home (foster or "fur-ever") awaiting her when her treatment and surgery are complete. Both can be achieved by the simple act of SHARING Abby's story with as many good people as possible. Please join me in doing so! ~Chaucer

Being a social fellow, I belong to several terrier groups here on FB (including, of course, The Naughty Terrier Club), and it seems so many of our senior members have crossed the Rainbow Bridge in just the last few days. I've noticed how kind People are to each other in these groups, strangers bound by a love of all things terrier-ific offering their condolences, some with just a few words, others with special photos or quotes. Just now I read a comment from one member to a grieving family with a quote from author Suzanne Clothier -- words that so encapsulate why People welcome us furry folks into their lives that I had to share them: "There is a cycle of love and death that shapes the lives of those who choose to travel in the company of animals. It is a cycle unlike any other. To those who have never lived through its turnings and walked its rocky path, our willingness to give our hearts with full knowledge that they will be broken seems incomprehensible. Only we know how small a price we pay for what we receive; our grief, no matter how powerful it may be, is an insufficient measure of the joy we have been given.” (I am not sure whether this quote is actually from Bones Would Rain from the Sky -- the much-lauded book pictured here and available for purchase here https://www.amazon.com/Bones-Would-Rain-Sky-Relationships/dp/044669634X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1522421264&sr=8-1&keywords=Suzanne+Clothier -- but I have just added it to my must-buy list and will update accordingly). ~Chaucer

This is Roberto. He's giving the photographer a typical "I am not amused" terrier look. Of course Roberto is not amused. He would like a fenced yard, a doggy playmate, and this cone removed, please. ~Chaucer
