Our 3rd grade students are learning about culture in their community during their current reading unit, and Ms. Dina brought their learning to life with a very special experience!
After watching a video about a Native American powwow, students had the opportunity to see authentic regalia and beautiful beadwork connected to the Chitimacha Tribe of Louisiana. Ms. Dina, who is a member of the Chitimacha Tribe, shared pieces from Native Americans in her community, along with items she created herself after taking beadwork lessons through her community’s culture department.
Our students were fascinated by the regalia, beadwork, traditions, and stories Ms. Dina shared. This experience helped them make a meaningful connection to their reading unit while encouraging them to think about the many cultures and traditions represented right here in their own community.
Thank you, Ms. Dina, for sharing your culture with our Cardinals and giving our students the opportunity to learn about and appreciate cultures and traditions beyond their own! ❤️🖤

Our 6th grade Social Studies students used a strategy called The Big Paper to review everything they’ve learned about the Exploration of North America. 🌎🗺️
Working in groups, students collaboratively jotted down their learning, made connections, and built on one another’s ideas. Then, they participated in a Gallery Walk to explore their classmates’ thinking and identify important takeaways and similarities.

Great job, Ms. Archon! We love seeing our teachers using engaging instructional strategies to get students thinking, collaborating, and actively participating in their learning!

We are so excited about the learning, collaboration, and critical thinking happening in our classrooms this year at CSE! ❤️🖤🤍
