Last Friday, we had the privilege of celebrating our 2026 completing class of apprentices!

Completing an apprenticeship takes years of hard work, sacrifice, persistence, and commitment to the craft. We’re incredibly proud of each apprentice recognized that evening and grateful to everyone who helped support them along the way.

From great food and conversations to well-earned recognition and plenty of laughs, it was a wonderful night celebrating the next generation of skilled craftspeople.

Six weeks ago, this group walked through our doors with little to no experience in bricklaying or PCC work. Today, they leave with new skills, new confidence, and the foundation for a career in the union trades.

Our pre-apprenticeship program is no small commitment. These students gave up six weeks of their time, unpaid, to show up every day ready to learn the basics of our craft. They mixed mortar, laid brick, learned safety, practiced teamwork, and pushed themselves through long days in the shop. What started as curiosity and determination has grown into real, usable skills that will serve them as new apprentices on jobsites across our industry.

This has been an incredibly strong group, and we’re proud of the work they’ve put in. Just under half have already secured employment with signatory contractors. While it’s been a slower start to the season, we’re hopeful the rest will be joining contractors soon as opportunities continue to open up.

These students are the next generation of our trade, and we’re proud to send them out into the field this summer. Congratulations to all of you on completing the program. We hope to see you back in the fall and winter for related training.

Today, our Brick Pre-Apprentices had the opportunity to visit a truly incredible jobsite with Acme Tuckpointing & Restoration at historic Fort Snelling’s Round Tower. Built in the 1820s, the Round Tower has stood for nearly 200 years overlooking the confluence of the Mississippi and Minnesota Rivers as part of the original stone fortification protecting the area.

For many of our students, this was their first chance to witness preservation and restoration work happening in real time. From studying the historic stonework up close to seeing the scale of the scaffolding, access systems, and repair work involved, the visit offered a firsthand look at the type of work PCC craftspeople perform every day to preserve structures that carry generations of history.

As this cohort enters its final week of training, experiences like this help bridge the gap between the training center and the field, giving students a deeper understanding of the craftsmanship, care, and responsibility that restoration work demands.

A huge thank you to ACME for welcoming our students onsite and sharing their knowledge and expertise with the next generation of union craftspeople.

We’ve just completed Week 5 of our Pre-Apprenticeship program, and this group will be ready for opportunities next week.

We often hear that not enough people are interested in the trades, or that no one wants to work hard anymore. This group proves otherwise.

Sixteen individuals have shown up every day—early—and have done it without pay. Five weeks ago, most of them didn’t know what a trowel was. Today, they’ve built a foundation and are ready to go to work.

All they’re asking for is an opportunity.

And here’s the reality—if you’re retired and still working, you may not see it this way, but you are taking up space that these individuals need to get started. If we don’t create room for the next generation now, we’re going to feel it even more in the years ahead.

If you’re in a position to hire, step up. This is one of the strongest groups we’ve had.

We’re closing out our Apprentice Skills Contest highlights with some of the best moments from the day—our contestants, judges, and the awards ceremony. Behind every finished project is a group of people showing up early, staying late, asking questions, sharing knowledge, and pushing each other to get better. This is what that looks like.

Congratulations again to all of our competitors for the work you put in and the pride you showed, and thank you to the judges who took the time to support and evaluate the next generation of our trade.
