🪴 Bishop Woods School Celebrates Outdoor Learning with CG at Outdoor Day!🪴

🌱 Last week, our Schoolyards team wrapped up its last Outdoor Day celebrations at , preceded by a series of prior outdoor events at other New Haven schools throughout May and June. Outdoor Days are whole-school celebrations of outdoor learning, held at our partnering schools’ campuses. 🌱

💚 CG is so proud to partner with the students and staff at schools like Bishop Woods through our Schoolyards Program, during the school year, and for their Outdoor Learning Day! This annual whole school celebration included hands-on learning activities like cooking bannock over a campfire, meeting our chickens, and working in the school garden and schoolyard habitat - pulling weeds, planting seeds, and watering the plants. Many thanks to Environmental Educator Melissa, with the help of Jill and Cooper, for coordinating such exciting activities. This springtime tradition gives the Bishop Woods community and other New Haven schools time to honor and maintain their outdoor learning spaces, like the one pictured - built in partnership with CG. 💚🌱

While we are so sad to have had to pause the Mobile Market this season, we are excited to keep offering fresh veggies to our surrounding community at our on site farm stand. Folks are welcome to come enjoy our site and leave with some collards, carrots, bouquets and more.

✨ Last month, we gathered around the campfire with some of our amazing CG supporters! Thank you to everyone who joined us for s’mores 🍫, sips, togetherness, and to help us raise vital funds! From our student leaders, to local educators, to New Haven’s environmental advocates, you are all superheroes!

✨ Through your generosity, we crushed our Rock to Rock fundraising, surpassed our Great Give goal and we’re well on our way to getting necessary funds through our End-of-Fiscal-Year Spring Appeal. Join the CT Farm To School Collaborative on June 24th for Stir the Pot, Farm to School Edition! This FREE in-person event at Common Ground High School is the first in a series of three that will take place across the state. Each topic will be different - we encourage you to attend as many as you are able!

Stir the Pot is an interactive community gathering series that brings people together through cooking and conversation to explore food systems, culture, and community action. This Farm to School edition explores how food education, local agriculture, and school meals can build healthier, more connected communities across Connecticut. We will use food from local farms to prepare our meal and highlight the people and places that grew it.
