New Haven Reads

Our Science Park students have been enjoying their Shine Your Light CT club over the past several weeks. They have created art out of pressed flowers, played drums, sung, created mood boards, made watercolors, and tie dyed. These activities have helped to foster even more community, build confidence, and create calm.

Attack of the Comic Book Club is one of our many clubs this summer. The students are working on creating their own comic book anthology. Each club member is guiding their story through every stage of the creative process—from idea and outline to rough draft, pencils, inks, and color. At the end of the six week session each student will have their own completed collection!

This past weekend our families had an amazing field trip kayaking on the Mill River with Kingfisher Adventures. All of these wonderful field trips this summer are made possible by The Women's Seamen's Friend Society of Connecticut.

Please join us for out Annual Fall Teacher Open House on August 17th! The Book Bank will be closed to the public so you can browse to select free books for your classroom library. We will also have information and sign ups for field trips and Book Bridge the day of the event.

Meet Jessica! Jessica is a student at the University of New Haven majoring in Finance and Financial Analytics. She supports many different areas at NHR, but her favorite is working with our students. Each day our Kindergarten Camp has read a new, ocean themed, story and done an activity based on the book. Its been really amazing to see our campers strengthen their writing and comprehension skills in fun and creative ways!!

Our families had a wonderful time on Thimble Island Cruises this past weekend touring the islands, water and learning all about their history!

Please help us congratulate Ahsan! He completed level 1 of Whole Phonics and got to take home his very own Pig from the Whole Phonics stories he read. We are so proud of you! 🧡💙
