From September 15 through October 15, Higher Heights Youth Empowerment Programs proudly recognizes Hispanic Heritage Month — a time to celebrate the rich histories, cultures, achievements, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities.

At Higher Heights, we believe that every student deserves the opportunity to dream boldly, pursue higher education, and become a leader in their community. We are especially proud to celebrate the Hispanic and Latino students, families, educators, partners, and leaders who enrich our schools and communities every day.

Throughout this month, we honor the generations who have paved the way while encouraging the next generation to continue breaking barriers, creating opportunities, and reaching new heights. 🎓✨

🎓 CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS! Connecticut’s high school seniors need YOU!

The Connecticut College Access & Advising Network (CCAN), an initiative of Higher Heights Youth Empowerment Programs, is gearing up for CT College Application Week, November 2–6, 2026!

We’re looking for caring community members, educators, college students, professionals, alumni, and partners to volunteer alongside students as they take one of the biggest steps toward their futures: submitting their college applications! 🎓

📍 Volunteer opportunities in New Haven, Hamden & Bridgeport

📅 November 2–6, 2026

You don’t have to be a college admissions expert to make an impact. Sometimes a little encouragement, guidance, and someone saying “You can do this!” is exactly what a student needs to hit SUBMIT on their first college application.

Growth looks different when you take a moment to remember where you started. 💚

The Higher Heights team is back at the table—planning, collaborating, and preparing for another year of empowering, encouraging, and equipping students across Connecticut.

This year, we’re excited to continue our partnerships with James Hillhouse High School, Hill Regional Career High School, and Common Ground High School, bringing comprehensive college access advising, programming, resources, and opportunities directly to students and families.

But this year also represents something bigger for Higher Heights.

What began as a small nonprofit organization focused on helping students access higher education has grown into an organization with two distinct departments:

🎓 College Access — continuing the work at the heart of Higher Heights: helping students navigate the pathway to postsecondary education and opportunity.

🏛️ Public Policy — expanding our ability to address the systems and policies that impact college access and success through the Connecticut College Access and Advising Network (CCAN).

Seeing our team gathered around the table—literally mapping out what it means to Empower. Encourage. Equip.—is a reminder that organizational growth isn’t simply about getting bigger. It’s about increasing our capacity to make an impact.

We’re not only helping students navigate systems anymore. We’re also working to help change the systems they have to navigate.

Here’s to a new school year, new partnerships, expanded impact, and the next chapter of Higher Heights! 🚀

Today students in our Summer College Application Bootcamp Program toured New York University and we had a great time!
✅ taking the Metro North (seeing our students help others lift luggage IYKYK 🤣)

✅ riding the hot NYC Train (and not missing our stop - IYKYK 🤣)

We are excited to welcome the Class of 2027 as we officially kick off the Higher Heights Youth Empowerment Programs Summer College Application Boot Camp! 💙

Today marks the beginning of an important journey as our rising seniors get a head start on the college application process—building their college lists, working on applications and essays, and preparing to make their postsecondary goals a reality.

A special THANK YOU to our college partner, Albertus Magnus College, for opening its doors and hosting our students. Partnerships like these help us create spaces where students can see themselves on a college campus and know that college is within their reach.
