Wrapping up our story elements and the summarizing portion and wanted to share some of the things we did!

The summary posters came out so good! Students worked in groups , read a picture book, and created a summary on their whiteboards. Then they worked together to show a visual with their summary! I loved how they turned out!

First Fall day together and we obviously needed to break out our Fall Three and Guess!

My kids love playing in teams but can also be done independently! Students get one clue revealed at a time and have to guess what the answer is.

Rounding is typically such a tricky concept for kids to grasp. Enter Rosie. 🌴

Rosie just learned to swim and sometimes she gets so tired and has to decide which palm tree/island she should swim to. If Rosie is rounding 13 to the nearest ten, would Rosie swim 7 strokes to Palm Tree 20?! NO way Rosie! Rosie would swim back to Palm Tree 10! We talked a lot about finding the halfway mark (or lighthouse 🤣) and that helped kids a ton. I continually went back to the number line and asked where the number (aka Rosie) was on the number line and what multiple of 10 she was closer too. This visual really helps build a conceptual understanding of rounding and they truly loved it! Rosie for the win!! 👏🏼👏🏼

This is one of those NON NEGOTIABLE lessons that I teach every year to really get students to understand that when I am with a small group, they are NOT interrupting me!

Finish the sentence is such a great morning meeting activity!

Students will finish the prompt to silly questions, getting to know you questions, classroom routine questions, back to school questions, and more! Students can do this in groups, whole group with whiteboards, or with partners!

Robots and Monsters and Place Value? Oh my!

This is always such a fun lesson that I love having students do on day one of place value! A number was on the board and students had to build that number and create a monster or robot! They loved it !
