Lydia Payne is the August Student of the Month for New Haven High School. Lydia is the daughter of Michael and Crystal Payne. She is involved in varsity volleyball, where she serves as team captain; varsity basketball; FBLA, where she serves as president; Student Council; FCCLA; and varsity track and field. She is a member of Assumption Catholic Church and always lends a helping hand with youth sports camps in town. Some of her favorite ways to spend her time are hanging out with her friends and family, going shopping, eating out, and playing pickleball with her friends. Whenever she gets the opportunity, she enjoys working out and improving her skills for upcoming and current sports seasons. Something fun she would like to share about herself is that she is always willing to take on a challenge. This year, she is taking on some challenging courses and is excited to see what she can learn and accomplish. She has demonstrated a strong commitment to academic and extracurricular excellence throughout her high school career. She has earned numerous Academic All-Conference and Academic All-State honors, maintained Honor Roll recognition, and received Academic Activity and Power Index awards. A talented three-sport athlete, she has earned varsity letters in volleyball, basketball, and track, along with All-State and All-Conference honors. She has competed at the state level in multiple track events and has consistently been a top finisher at district and sectional meets. She has also been actively involved in FBLA, earning second place at the district level. As a junior, she was recognized as the third runner-up in the Queen Contest and received the Mrs. Congeniality award. Lydia’s favorite thing about being a Shamrock is how helpful and involved everyone is. “I really appreciate how everyone supports each other and works together, making our school community feel like a big family.” Her favorite school subject recently has been macroeconomics. She enjoys it because it involves things that everyone experiences, such as how the economy works and how it affects our daily lives. She believes it is important to understand these concepts and how they impact the world around us. Teachers describe Lydia as a kind, hardworking, and welcoming student who has shown significant growth in academics, focus, and attention to detail. She has also emerged as a positive role model and leader, consistently encouraging and supporting her peers and going out of her way to make others feel included. Congratulations, Lydia!
