Xiang Gu is a fashion industry veteran turned painter based in Hong Kong. She is a member of Seisukai, the Japanese avant-garde art society founded in 1975 advocating the core values of freedom, equality, individualism and mutual respect, with her work often showcased in the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum.
“The first course that I took was Oil Painting - to me it was an eye-opening experience tailored for art enthusiasts and beginners like me. It broke down fundamental techniques and disciplines into easy-to-understand lessons. Beyond the canvas, the dual approach to art critique both in-studio and at the museum was a learning multiplier. It allowed students to identify their own strengths and weaknesses while "sucking up" knowledge from the Great Masters and gaining a deeper appreciation for art history.”
“The Business of Film, my second course, provided me with a comprehensive overview of the Hollywood plus film industry's history and evolution. It vividly illustrated the current and emerging challenges facing filmmakers and investors while inspiring us to identify new opportunities. The interactive discussion sessions were particularly effective in fostering critical thinking and collaborative brainstorming. Furthermore, the final project’s emphasis on teamwork offered invaluable practical experience for those pursuing careers in film, entertainment, or the streaming sector.”
“Spending time within the Yale University Art Gallery, the Yale Center for British Art and Sterling Memorial Library has been both moving and truly memorable. These landmarks provided me with more than just firsthand access to a vast art collection and archive of knowledge; they offered a powerful window into the shared legacy of human civilization.”
“For younger students, Yale Summer Session offers a portal into a broader, more diverse world. Beyond the lectures, you’ll encounter interesting and inspiring minds among your peers and professors, sparking both intellectual growth and personal friendships. For grownups and lifelong learners, these five weeks act as a pause-button allowing you to decelerate and rejuvenate both mind and body.”
