Yale Divinity School professors Jacqueline Vayntrub and Volker Leppin have been awarded a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities to launch an international scholarly collaboration to examine a difficult legacy: how Martin Luther’s anti-Jewish writings helped shape modern academic approaches to interpreting the Bible.

NEH Grant Supports Faculty-Led Project on Luther’s Legacy in Biblical Studies Yale Divinity School Professors Jacqueline Vayntrub and Volker Leppin will convene an international working group to examine how Luther’s anti-Jewish hermeneutics shaped modern academic biblical interpretation.

John Hare, Emeritus Noah Porter Professor of Philosophy, gave lectures in Nairobi in July at St. Paul's University, Africa International University, and the University of Nairobi. Two of his lectures explored philosophical themes on the subject of AI and theological education, building on the consultation on AI and theological education hosted by St. Paul's University in Nairobi - with the support of the Yale MacMillan Center's Project on Religion and Society in Africa. Prof. Hare also gave talks on Immanuel Kant and on pilgrimage.

Prof. Kyama Mugambi accompanied him on this visit, during which Prof. Hare met, among many others, Dr. Nelson Makanda, Vice Chancellor of Africa International University; Prof. Waithima, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at SPU; Dr. Kiula, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Administration at SPU; Dr. Julius Kithinji, Dean of the School of Theology at SPU; Dr. Joseph Koech, Dean of the School of Theology at PAC University; and Dr. Kevin Muriithi, Director of Research at SPU. Professor Hare's visit further strengthens the growing engagement between YDS and various institutions in Kenya.

The Yale Institute of Sacred Music is inviting applications for the position of director of chapel music. This position will direct the music in three university chapels— Marquand Chapel, Berkeley Divinity School at Yale, and The University Church in Yale. Each setting is both a place for spiritual formation and educational enrichment. The appointment begins Jan 1, 2027 (or negotiable).
