Yale Divinity School This is the official page for Yale Divinity School. The faculty is drawn from the major Christian traditions as well as other world religions.

This page is for the sharing of information that may be of interest to the greater YDS community and our friends around the country and world. Yale Divinity School is a graduate professional school of Yale University committed to: "Faith and Intellect: Preparing Leaders for Church and World." Students represent several dozen denominations and faith groups. Instruction is provided in the history, doctrines, and polity of all the major church bodies. YDS offers programs of study leading to the degrees of Master of Divinity (M.Div.), Master of Arts in Religion (M.A.R.), and Master of Sacred Theology (S.T.M.). Programs for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) are offered by the Department of Religious Studies in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. Several YDS faculty hold joint appointments in the Department of Religious Studies, others participate in the doctoral program, and some Religious Studies faculty offer courses at YDS.

The Jehovah’s Witnesses have partly eased their longstanding prohibition on the medical use of donated blood, allowing members to receive products derived from blood but maintaining a ban on transfusions of whole blood.

The Jehovah’s Witnesses have partly eased their ban on the medical use of donated blood. Members can now receive products derived from blood, but transfusions of whole blood remain prohibited.

Join us on Saturday, September 26 at 7:30p.m. in Battell Chapel, as principal conductor Grete Pedersen leads Yale Schola Cantorum in the group's first concert of the season, featuring performances of Dieterich Buxtehude's Membra Jesu nostri and Eivind Buene's Untitled (Horizons).

Free and open to the public.

Composed by Dieterich Buxtehude in 1680, Membra Jesu nostri, BuxWV 75, is a cycle of seven cantatas. Each cantata addresses a part of Jesus' crucified body: feet, knees, hands, side, breast, heart and face.

Composed by Eivind Buene, Untitled (Horizons) is a choral work in three movements, with text fragments derived from the great tradition of classical music for choir, chosen for their ability to say something that rings true in our world today. They do not present any coherent 'story' through the piece, but convey an emotional landscape through sound and associations. The late paintings of Mark Rothko have been important in the composition process, where the music echo his vibrant layers of color split by a lingering horizon.

This service will be a Feast of St. Matthew Evensong, featuring music of Jean Berger, Stanford, and Wood “O thou the central orb.”
