For many families, home-based child care and trusted caregivers help fill the gaps when parents have to work nights, weekends, or overnight.

An insightful piece by The 74 takes a closer look at the providers caring for children during nontraditional hours and the flexibility and commitment this work requires.

Among them is Desiree Reid, an educator who has participated in All Our Kin’s programming, sharing her perspective alongside other providers who are meeting the needs of working families.

Caminos hacia la Calidad de All Our Kin es una serie de cinco sesiones de formación profesional bilingüe diseñada para ayudar a los educadores de Connecticut a obtener la acreditación.

Basada en el Marco de Acreditación de la Asociación Nacional de Cuidado Infantil Familiar (NAFCC), esta serie práctica les ofrece estrategias prácticas, orientación personalizada y apoyo estructurado para fortalecer su programa y elevar la calidad del cuidado que brindan a los niños y las familias.

Quiénes pueden postularse:
✅ Educadores de cuidado infantil familiar con licencia y al menos 1 año de experiencia
✅ Que actualmente cuiden al menos a dos niños
✅ Que hayan completado la serie de negocios de 10 semanas de All Our Kin

“Growing up, my grandmother cared for me and other children in our community while their parents went to work. I loved spending time with the younger children. I’d help her read to them, play pretend, and prepare snacks for each child.

This week is FFN Appreciation Week, celebrating the incredible family, friend, and neighbor caregivers who are the heartbeat of our communities. A role my grandmother embodied every day.

What I remember most was the love and care she extended to the parents, too. Sometimes a parent would struggle to pay her at the end of the week, and she would always work with them.

She wasn’t just caring for children. She was supporting families in every way she could, a spirit of love and connection we were reminded of over the weekend for Grandparents Day. She was truly a grandmother to all.”

Head Start has served over 40 million children over the past 60 years, providing critical child care for families across the nation.

However, RFK Jr. is putting this vital program at risk by proposing harmful deregulation changes that, if enacted, will:

❌ reduce child care access
❌ increase classroom sizes
❌ lower protections for children w/disabilities
❌ diminish teacher qualification standards

Congratulations to the latest cohort of remarkable family child care educators who completed All Our Kin’s Business Series!

This cohort was part of the New Haven Incubator Project, a partnership between All Our Kin and Havenly that piloted a multilingual approach to our Business Series.

As part of the pilot, the curriculum was translated into French, Amharic, Arabic, and Farsi, expanding access to more providers. We’re incredibly grateful to the interpreters and translators who made this aspect of the pilot possible.

We also want to thank instructor Katie McGinnis, the host and organizer Denisse Cruz-Contreras of Havenly, and The Connecticut Project Action Fund for funding this work.
