If you weren't able to join us today, you missed a great meeting!

Our word of the day was "spendthrift" and our tip of the day was about how to mindfully eat during the holidays by Wendy - use a smaller plate (a salad plate, not a dinner plate!). This makes us less likely to overeat!

Join us next time on Wed. 12/15 for our last meeting of 2021! J'Vaughn will be presenting a prepared speech, so please show up to support him!

We had our first hybrid meeting KNOWN coworking today! This was the first time since the pandemic since any of us have seen each other in person!! 💃🏾🕺🏿🌟

Barb Nangle gave a prepared speech on "Feminine Biz Boundaries Social Media Campaign." This was a Level 4 speech.

J'Vaughn was the Toastmaster & General Evaluator, Paul was the grammarian, Wendy was Barb's speech evaluator & the Table Topics Master. Sophia was the timer and had to be innovative about how to signal green, yellow and red (she used a green marker, yellow and pink stickie notes).

It was *so great* to see some of us in person.

The Meeting OWL Pro device with its 360 degree camera worked great! If you need to host a hybrid meeting and you're in the New Haven area, Known Coworking is the place to go!

Today was the 5th Wed. of the month, which we designate as an educational meeting, rather than the traditional meetings we hold 1st and 3rd Wednesdays.

We started with Barb Nangle sharing about an upcoming project she'll be working on for Level 4 of "Motivational Strategies" Pathway. It requires her to lead a project for the benefit of the Yale TM group. She'll have to recruit volunteers and motivate them to complete the project, then give a speech about it.

The group shared the following suggestions to Barb:
How to get more people to give speeches
Increase club members
Increase engagement in meetings

She'll work on a way to possibly weave all these into one project and come back to the group for approval. In the meantime, we decided to add a segment to the beginning of each meeting for every person to do a 30-60 second intro (not just visitors and newcomers) as a way to connect us to each other.

As the newest member, Sofia Cui had questions about what pathway to choose, mentorship within the club and what the leadership roles are and who fills those roles. We went around and introduced ourselves and our roles, then Barb shared a PowerPoint presentation on how to use Pathways to decide which Path is right for you, as well as how the websites and the program works!

Thanks to these members for joining us today!

We had our semi-monthly TM meeting today. We took the screenshot before Wendy Battles-Plasse and Paul Terman signed on so they're not shown! We also had Lucy Hoff and Konstantza Popova, as well as two newbies join us (Sofia and Brian).

Today's meeting featured a speech by Barb Nangle who's following the Motivational Strategies Pathway and is on Level 4. Her project was to create a podcast, which she did over 2 years ago so this was right up her alley! Her podcast is linked below, and she specifically shared on ep # 3 "Victim Mentality."

Paul gave a tip on using a blue tooth device that works with both phone and computer (yipee!) and Konstantza led our Table Topics speeches were varied and some of us got pretty vulnerable!

We meet the 1st and 3rd Wed. of each month at noon via Zoom for now. Come join us!

Two new guests came to our noontime meeting today! Welcome to Brian and Sophia!

Today we welcomed back Ihssane Khatib!! (and quickly got him to step in as Toastmaster!!).

The meeting started with a tip from Brad about how to reverse the effects on your shoulders from working at a desk all day.

Lucy gave a prepared speech on the different styles of communication, what their strengths are and how to work with people of each style.

Wilbur was the Table Topics Master today and he posed some great questions to the group:
What do you want the most?
What's been on your mind lately?
Is it worth it to go to war?
If the average life span was 40 years, what would you do differently?
What can you do now that you couldn't do a year ago?

We had all kinds of cool responses from the members who shared their 1-2 minute impromptu speeches on these topics. Come join us at our next meeting via Zoom on Wed. 5/19 at noon!

We love our 5th Wednesdays! While we thoroughly enjoy our regularly scheduled prepared speeches and Table Topics, we also LOVE our extra Wednesdays where we hold an educational session. For this month’s 5th Wednesday, we will be doing a Q&A session moderated by Barb Nangle. Bring your questions on March 31st 12PM EDT. DM for the Zoom link!

Toastmasters International - 03/16/2021

Table Topics is a low-stakes opportunity to practice your impromptu (unprepared) speaking skills. The Table Topics Master will ask you a question and you have 1-2 minutes to answer. This fun segment is open to everyone - even guests!
We strongly encourage you to participate in this activity every chance you get in our friendly and supportive environment.
Our next meeting is tomorrow, March 17 at noon EST. Join us! DM for the Zoom link!

Toastmasters International - For many Toastmasters, nothing strikes fear into the heart quite like the Table Topics® part of a meeting. You know it’s important to learn spontaneous speaking, but it’s intimidating, and there’s no way to prepare. Or is there?
