Yesterday we said goodbye to the incredible 2024 World Fellows, as we celebrated their achievements, friendships, and the impact they’ve made during their time at Yale. Though their fellowship has come to an end, their journey as leaders and changemakers continues. Thank you for inspiring us all!

Classmate reflects on Alexei Navalny's time at Yale Late Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny is said to have enjoyed his college experience at Yale over a decade ago. One Yale classmate remembers his friend.

The entire Yale World Fellows family is heartbroken by reports that Alexey Navalny, courageous Russian opposition leader and anti-corruption dissident, has died.

Alexey was a Yale World Fellow from the class of 2010, who embodied the ideals of the open society and dedicated his life to the pursuit of a better Russia. After being poisoned by the state, he bravely returned to Russia, only to face immediate arrest. He defied a dictatorship, and paid for it with his life.

We will remember his unflagging courage and his selfless sacrifice—and also his mischievous grin, his sense of humor, and his devotion to his family.

Alexey was a larger-than-life figure. His life was an inspiration to us all.

Last year, at the World Fellows’ 20th reunion, we saved an empty seat for Alexey in the front row. He will no longer be able to occupy it, but a place remains for all those around the world who continue in his path. His spirit is uncrushable. He lives on in all of us.

And just like that, the 2023 World Fellows Program has come to a close. The semester was marked by new learnings, new friendships, and new beginnings 🫶

The Maurice R. Greenberg World Fellows Program is a four-month, full-time residential program based out of the Yale International Leadership Center and housed within the Jackson School of Global Affairs. The program provides World Fellows the opportunity to expand their vision, learn from each other, and grow personally and professionally. They contribute to Yale’s intellectual life, give talks and participate on panels, collaborate with peers, audit classes, and mentor students.
