We are New Haven educators and community members who believe that anti-racist, democratic, and fully-funded public schools are essential for a more just world!

Vision: We believe in high-quality public education for all students that includes:
1. fully funded schools that prioritize students’ needs
2. democratically-run and community-based schools
3. focus on the whole child
4. culturally relevant curriculum and instruction
5. more learning and less testing

In order to achieve these goals we see ourselves as part of a larger movement for economic, racial, and social justice.

Happening today — not too late to register!

Next Thursday, February 10th from 5:00-6:30 pm via Zoom, the ARTLC will be hosting an event, Teaching the CT Black/ Latinx Studies Course: Lessons From the Pilot Year.

Featuring teachers and students from Westhill High School (Stamford), Metropolitan Business Academy (New Haven), Windsor High School, and Staples High School (Westport) sharing lessons, experiences, and insights from teaching the CT Black/Latinx Studies Course during the pilot year.

This year, dozens of high schools across CT have piloted the Black/Latinx Studies Course mandated by the State Legislature in 2019. In the fall, more than 100 schools across the state will offer the elective for the first time. What lessons can be learned from those schools that have piloted the course? How have they shaped the curriculum to meet the needs and interests of their students? Recommended for teachers, curriculum coordinators, guidance counselors, students, and others supporting the implementations of the course.

Sample Email Regarding Remote Learning 01/02/2022

Connecticut educators, students, families, and community members, the covid rates across the state are cause for concern and our schools are not prepared to safely open for in-person learning. Students and staff do not have access to sufficient testing, there is no requirement for a negative test to return, and CT schools have been instructed to discontinue contact tracing.

I sent this letter to my elected officials to call for a temporary return to remote learning, and for clear metrics that indicate when schools should go remote and when they can return to in-person learning (no such metrics currently exist). If you are concerned about in-person schooling during this covid surge, I encourage you to send an email right away. Contact information and sample letter are linked here.

Sample Email Regarding Remote Learning INSTRUCTIONS FOR SENDING EMAIL TO ELECTED OFFICIALS: Copy and paste the sample letter, which begins on page 2-3 of this document, into the body of an email. If you are a school employee, please use your non-work email. Be sure to add a subject line to your email: COVID School Safety Concerns -...
