Grade 5 returned from Outdoor Classroom with memories of outdoor adventures and new experiences exploring the natural world. Along the way, students observed, questioned, discovered, and worked together, gaining firsthand experience in the importance of patience, listening to one another’s ideas, and knowing when to ask for help. Everyone had a wonderful time!

At St. Thomas’s, we truly believe that every child brings a unique gift to our community, and our goal is to help them grow into caring, thoughtful citizens of the world. As part of that mission, we’re so excited to be celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month together!

Throughout the month, our students are exploring the vibrant traditions and cultures across the Spanish-speaking world. This week, we were treated to a wonderful presentation from some of our faculty and parents, who shared the rich culture and beauty of Ecuador with us. We’re also so grateful to Chaplain Alan for his thoughtful reflection on today's celebration: "English is a rich language but it's fun to learn a word for something we all experience but for which we have no equivalent. The dad of one of our kindergarteners is Ecuadorian; he spoke in chapel today and gave us one: Sobremesa: The food is gone, but no one gets up. The talking is the point."

The start of school has brought beautiful weather and at St. Thomas's, we're making the most of it in Outdoor Education. Why stay indoors when meaningful learning can happen outside? Our exceptional location gives students direct access to East Rock, Edgerton Park, and the Mill River, transforming New Haven into our Learning Laboratory. It’s one of the many ways a St. Thomas’s education feels meaningful, memorable, and connected to the world around us.

With proud smiles and a few happy tears, our sixth-grade students celebrated a memorable graduation ceremony on Wednesday as they marked the end of their journey at St. Thomas’s Day School. Surrounded by family, friends, faculty, and classmates, graduates reflected on cherished memories, lasting friendships, and the lessons that have shaped them along the way.

Becker Chase '95 was the Graduation speaker and he spoke to the class with honesty and fond memories of his time at St. T's. "I remember thinking how much I felt at peace here, in this beautiful chapel where we had started every school day since I was four, immersed in song, reflection, and togetherness. Those feelings - which many of you are probably sharing right now - I still carry with me every day. And I am confident it is my secret to being such a cheerful New Yorker."

As the school year winds down, it wouldn’t feel complete without Field Day—and today's celebration was everything we hoped for and more. The weather was perfect, school spirit was everywhere, and sportsmanship shined throughout the day. To top it off, everyone enjoyed the Kona Ice truck after lunch.

Students proudly teamed up in their color groups for a morning filled with games, laughter, and friendly competition, all leading up to the highly anticipated tug-of-war showdown. In a tradition that never seems to change, Kindergarten once again proved unstoppable and claimed bragging rights over the entire school! 😍With Field Day in the books, we’re ready for one final milestone: graduation next week.
