Lanternflies have raised a lot of questions for our students, and we love where their curiosity takes them.

They understand that lanternflies may be invasive and can be harmful to trees, while also being encouraged to slow down, observe, wonder, and ask questions about the world around them.

Here, one student carefully held a lanternfly and observed how it moved, walked, and flew. She noticed that its four front legs moved while its two back legs stayed still. She even described the feeling of placing her finger between its legs as being “like Velcro.”

Happy Ball ⚾️💚— a Cold Spring tradition at least FIVE years strong!

After a full week of orientation, there’s really only one appropriate way to wrap things up: a little kickball, a little baseball, a lot of questionable athletic decisions, and plenty of laughter😂

We’re so lucky to have this crew of educators who bring creativity and joy to our classrooms every day — and who clearly know how to have a little fun, too. Here’s to another year of joyful learning, big adventures, and the very best team we could ask for!

Please join us in welcoming Carla MacMullen as our Interim Head of School!

Carla brings decades of leadership experience in independent schools, including serving as Head of School at The Kew-Forest School in New York and Sacred Heart Academy Bryn Mawr. A longtime New Haven resident, she also held several leadership roles at Hopkins School and is deeply committed to educational excellence.

Now back in New Haven to be closer to family and friends, Carla is looking forward to joining the Cold Spring School community. We are thrilled to have her with us! 💚
