Meet Tyana Smith β26 π¦π
π BSW
π New London, CT
During my four years at SCSU, my favorite part about being a student here are the friendships that I have built along the way. I will be an owl forever!
"I am excited to be graduating with my Bachelor's degree in Social Work. My involvement in Social Work began in child welfare, with a focus on School Social Work. It has been my passion to be an advocate for children and families through community engagement and outreach. I work closely within my community to understand how empathy and collaboration can bring people together and move us towards equitable access to education and basic needs for our future generation. As first-generation student, I hope to serve as a living testimony that anything is possible and that the sky is the limit! "

Fun fact about Rose was born and raised in Haiti, speaks three languages and lived in three countries.
"As a third-year MSW student, I look forward to graduating and bringing my classroom learning into real-world practice. My journey as an immigrant has shaped not only who I am, but also the social worker I aspire to become. I am especially passionate about working with immigrant communities, supporting individuals and families as they navigate the trauma of displacement and the complex pressures to assimilate into a new culture while holding onto their identity."

My favorite thing about being an SCSU Social Work student is connecting with the people in my cohort, especially meeting my friend Lexi.
"Whenever I am asked about my interest and goals when it comes to being in the field of social work, I always say my goal is to "make people feel okay." I strive to make inclusive spaces for under-represented and vulnerable populations while meeting each individual where they are at and helping them to meet their goals."
