Yale Hellenic Society’s annual “Vasilopita” event took place last Sunday! Thank you to professors, graduate and undergraduate students for joining us, and congrats to this year’s “flouri” winners.

Χριστός Ανέστη και Χρόνια Πολλά! We hope that all of our followers are currently somewhere safe as we are celebrating this certainly different Easter. This year we may not be able to meet in one of Yale's beautiful courtyards to celebrate this holy day, but rest assured that all of us are daydreaming until the next time when we will be able to rejoice together. Until then stay strong and stay safe. Καταιγίδα είναι και θα περάσει as we Greeks say :)

Σήμερα, ίσως πιο πολύ από ποτέ, ηχεί το μήνυμα της εθνικής ενότητας που εξέφρασε πριν από σχεδόν δύο αιώνες η Ελληνική Επανάσταση. Ευχόμαστε σε όλα τα μέλη της κοινότητάς και στους ακόλουθους της σελίδας μια χαρούμενη 25η Μαρτίου. Ελπίζουμε να είστε υγιείς και ασφαλείς μαζί με τους αγαπημένους σας όπου και να βρίσκεστε. Είμαστε σίγουροι ότι η Ελλάδα αλλά και ολόκληρος ο κόσμος θα επιστρέψουν δριμύτεροι μετά το πέρας της κρίσης που βιώνουμε. Έως τότε φροντίστε τους εαυτούς σας αλλά και τους γύρω σας μέχρι με το κάλο να μαζευτούμε πάλι όλοι μαζί σαν κοινότητα το ερχόμενο φθινόπωρο. Ζήτω η Ελλάδα και η 25η Μαρτίου!

Last night the Society held its annual “Vasilopita” event. Although no-one won the “flouri” this year, professors, undergraduate and graduate students had a very enjoyable evening. We wish you all a very happy new year and decade!

The Hellenic Society would like to wish to all of its members and friends a very happy new year and decade! To celebrate the occurrence we are attaching a recording of the Corfu Philharmonic Orchestra's take on the tradition of "Kalanda." Το Hellenic Society σας εύχεται καλά Χριστούγεννα, να είστε πάντα υγιείς και να περάσετε όμορφα με τους δικούς σας ανθρώπους 🎉⛄️🎄🎅

Most of our older members will fondly remember Daphne Martin '19, a recent Yale alumnus and former President of the Society, who majored in Classics and Archeology. She is currently continuing the studies in her field as a graduate student in the University of Cambridge.

Apart from all the things that she did while at Yale most people know her about the archeological initiative that she started two summers ago in the Greek town of Sparta.

Going under the title of "Embracing Our Monuments in Sparta" the multi-week program invites college students who are interested in the field, whether they are Greek or not, to provide tours of the cultural heritage sites of the city to locals and visitors while at the same time contributing in the organization of local cultural events and conducting research on recent discoveries.

Η διεθνής τάση της εκπαιδευτικής εξωστρέφειας, του Νίκου Ευσταθίου | Kathimerini Οι τεράστιες ακαδημαϊκές δυνατότητες της Ελλάδας για προσέλκυση ξένων φοιτητών και οι ελάχιστες ελπιδοφόρες πρωτοβουλίες.

Two days ago the society hosted a small Basketball tournament among its members. The participants played in teams of two and competed over the span of three rounds for a small prize. Great fun was had by all, everyone leaving with a smile on their lips!

Congratulations go in particular to Vasilis and Peter for coming out as the champions, having the most overall wins!

Η 28η Οκτωβρίου 1940 αποτελεί ορόσημο στην νεότερη ιστορία του Ελληνικού Έθνους. Η μεγαλειώδης και νικηφόρος αντίσταση στην επίθεση της φασιστικής Ιταλίας κατά της πατρίδος υπήρξε το αποτέλεσμα της ομοψυχίας και ενότητος της Ελλάδας, παρά την αριθμητική και στρατιωτική υπεροπλία του εχθρού. Η νίκη της πατρίδας απετέλεσε το εφαλτήριο της συντριβής του Άξονα και προκαλεί τον εύλογο θαυμασμό όλων όσων πιστεύουν στα Ιδεώδη της Ελευθερίας και της Δημοκρατίας ενάντια στην τυραννία και τον ολοκληρωτισμό. Ο θρίαμβος των Ελλήνων γέννησε την ελπίδα για την τελική επικράτηση των Συμμάχων που επήλθε μετά από πέντε χαλεπά χρόνια φοβερών δεινών για την Υφήλιο. Τέλος, ο αγώνας του έθνους στάθηκε έκτοτε ως ένα ιλαρό σημείο αναφοράς και υπερηφάνειας, εμφυσώντας δύναμη στους απανταχού Έλληνες για το μέλλον. Είθε η ιστορική αυτή επέτειος να δρα ως υπενθύμιση των δυνατοτήτων της χώρας μας σε κλίμα ομοψυχίας και ενότητας. Ζήτω η 28η Οκτωβρίου, ζήτω η Ελλάς!
