Got helmet stank?

My helmet and gloves stank like a men’s locker room. I ride multiple horses a day, and then, like the moron I am, I put my gloves inside my helmet and zip them both into my bag. So the stink just…marinates. Like my college boyfriend’s hockey bag.

Lots of my riders have said they’ve washed their helmet liners, but it doesn’t really help. Let me give you the prescription for a FRESH HELMET!!

1.) remove the liner (all oneK liners are removable)
2.) wipe the inside of your helmet THOROUGHLY with a Clorox wipe (you didn’t do a good enough job. Do it again.)
3.) wipe UNDER the MIPS liner as much as you can without harming the mips liner- it’s not a good idea to remove it. So don’t.
4.) put the helmet outside, upside down in the sun to dry and leave it there for a couple hours.
5.) get your TIDE SIMPLY + OXI and wash your gloves & helmet liner on a hot cycle with whatever else you’ve got to wash.

** here’s the kicker! You can’t wash stink with stink. You’ve got to wash the liner and your gloves with laundry that doesn’t stink of the barn. Be brave. It’ll be okay.

6.) HANG your liner and gloves outside to dry. *the dryer just heats up stink. Don’t do it.

7.) once dry, snap the liner back into the helmet and commence to re-applying stink to it.

**Repeat as needed. And also, maybe don’t zip sweaty stink into your helmet bag. You aren’t a hockey playing dude. You know better. **

Voila! You’ve got a fresh, delicious, CLEAN helmet!

And REMEMBER- your helmet is only good for 5 years or one good fall. REPLACE your helmet every five years falls or no. Seriously. Don’t f**k with your brain.

I LOVE starting youngsters! Love it! Bring me all the babies!

Here is FCF Titan, a gorgeous 4 year old gelding, here to begin his riding horse adventures:) bred by Faerie Court Farm.

First he lunged, then lunged in tack, then he ponied all around wearing tack, now we go for walks out and about! I first sat on Titan ba****ck in a rope halter (shocked hissing!) which allows me to get down easily if needed, and doesn’t apply any pressure to his face/mouth as he doesn’t understand that kind of pressure yet. Today was his first ride in full tack and he was PERFECT! Foot perfect. Trusting, kind, thoughtful. He asked questions and accepted the answers I gave him. What more could you ask?!

I love the balance and strength carrying a rider through the woods and fields brings to young horses. Not to mention the confidence they get from navigating the changes in footing & whatever nature throws at them! It takes so much strength to carry a rider. Hacking is a wonderful way to build that strength!

Titan’s older brother, King lead the way and helped Titan feel safe with Violet Whitcomb aboard🄰 they were perfect partners!

I can’t wait to see what this guy tells us🄰

When I decided I wanted a horse farm, this guy moved heaven and earth to make it happen. Without him, it wouldn’t have happened. He’s run me to the ER when I’ve taken diggers, he’s sat with me when it’s too much and I’m feeling sorry for myself, he’s hauled countless loads of hay, moved endless loads of poo, stood with us when the vets have been here giving us hard news. He takes everyone exactly as they are, sees them for who they are and accepts them unconditionally. My people are his people. I’m still not sure ā€œlet’s own a horse farmā€ was my best idea, but it’s surely going better than ā€œlet’s own a restaurantā€šŸ¤Ŗ Happy birthday to our anchor, Jesse!!

From a summer that was looking very uncertain, an abscess that lasted for forever, a whole bunch of six days a week, every week- these two soared today! Hard works pays. There’s just no other way. She uses her trainer, she trusts her professionals and she GRINDS! My heart is on fire, Jessica Martell Smith!!! I can’t wait to see what else you two accomplish! The sky is the limit!!

Sire and son hack!

FCF King ofthe Faeries took myself, FCF Inigo’s Legacy (his son) & Ini’s new partner Emmy on their first hack through the woods and surrounding fields today. It was an absolutely perfect day for an adventure!
