At our AAPI assembly last week we were pleased to honor Charmain Yun, the Executive Director of Christian Community Action, Inc. with our AAPI Heritage Month Community Leadership Award. This organization in our community provides help and hope to many students, families, and neighbors by providing emergency housing, a diaper bank, food, and other services and advocacy groups. Congratulations Mrs. Yun and thank you for all you do!

Mrs. Stevens’ room was filled with chirps and squeals of delight last week as 7 eggs hatched! Her multilingual learners in grades K-2 had been learning about and observing the process of fertilized eggs hatching into chicks- and patiently waiting for 21 days! Once they hatched, students of all ages were excited to see them. Many of our students from Afghanistan shared about how they raised chicks back home.
The chicks are now enjoying more space on a farm, but we’ll get some photos to see how quickly they grow!

On Friday we celebrated Asian Assembly Pacific Islander Heritage Month with our 3rd annual assembly. Students enjoyed sharing about their own countries and cultures or those they researched this month. There was Afghan drumming, Afghan wedding dances, Kpop singing and dancing, information about Asian countries, oral histories, a fashion show, poetry in Pashto and Arabic, and much more. We are thankful to be a community that celebrates diversity!
