fNIRS stands for Functional Near Infra-Red Spectroscopy. That's a fancy way of saying we use light to detect brain activity. Does this hurt? No! Take a flashlight and place your hand over the light. That's essentially what we are doing. See the methods section of our website to learn more! https://llamblab.haskins.yale.edu/what-is-neuro-imaging/

Practicing EEG capping yesterday!
EEG (or electroencephalography) involves placing an array of detectors on the hair to record the tiny electrical currents generated by the brain. The detectors are salt based and completely safe!

Laurel, one of the lab managers at the LLAMB Lab, has been working on setting up our eye tracker!
We use eye tracking to measure attention. It is a non-invasive procedure that shines a small, harmless light on a person's eye. A special camera detects that light. This allows us to track where someone is looking on a screen showing pictures or videos! When we have infants participate, we either ask parents to hold their babies or we let the babies sit in a high chair while the parents are next to them.

Last Friday, some members of the LLAMB Lab went to a training session at the Connecticut Science Center to prepare to run studies with children who are visiting the museum with their parents.
Thanks to everyone at the center for making this possible! Weβre looking forward to working with you!

As child development researchers, there is nothing we care more about here at the LLAMB Lab than keeping your child safe and healthy. In line with this goal, and current Yale requirements, our research team (all of whom are fully vaccinated) will be masked during all in person studies we conduct.
